Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Appliances are named in the city's bulk definition, with three published conditions: an appliance large enough to trap a child must have its door removed or secured so it cannot close, the unit has to be empty, and anything capable of holding compressed gas must have the gas evacuated before collection.
A mattress is not named in the city's bulk definition, its collectible examples or its prohibited list, so the published route is the routine bulk service but the piece itself has to be confirmed with the Sanitation Division.

Set the pile at the curb of the property that generated it, or at the normal collection site, clear of overhead obstructions, on the scheduled collection day. Appliances need the door removed or secured, the unit emptied and any gas evacuated; the collectible examples on the city page are a broken toilet or storm door, a section of fencing, a room of carpet, branches no longer than six feet and clean-out items that would fit in a pickup truck bed.
