An oversized item or a pile of household junk, such as a treadmill, a shelving unit, a patio set or a small garage clean out, is collected through the city's large item service, on the ward's annual cleanup day, or at the landfill citizens' center.
City cost & eligibility
From $20 for for a small pickup truck load under the City's large item collection article, with other applicable fees added for items that carry their own charge. A Winchester customer who receives city garbage and refuse collection and schedules the pickup in advance with the Public Works Division.
When & how
Request the pickup through the city's large item collection form or by phone as far ahead as possible, put the items at the curb at the address given on the request, and expect the collection to happen on a weekday the city assigns rather than on the ordinary trash day.
Get it ready

A large item collection is only for an address that receives city collection, and the pickup has to be arranged before the item goes out. Appliances, furniture, lumber, large items, tires, construction debris and yard waste are prohibited in the city cart, and hazardous material, building waste, industrial waste, automobiles and automotive parts are not collected by the city at all. Paint, electronics, batteries and chemicals go to the county landfill convenience center on its published collection days, yard waste goes out separately on Fridays, and construction material and tires go to the regional landfill where they are weighed and charged.
