Free annual bulky item pickup

Accepted with preparation

Every Auburn residential WM garbage customer gets one free bulky item collection a year, scheduled in advance and collected on the regular service day, for up to four large items.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free once a year for a Waste Management Auburn residential garbage customer, for up to four large items, when the pickup is scheduled in advance with the hauler on 253-939-9792 and the items meet the published limits. A household with more than four items or with refused material uses the county facilities instead, where fees apply.
When & how
Call the hauler to schedule the pickup, expect it on the regular service day, and be ready to tell the customer service agent which items are going to the curb.
Get it ready
Keep every item within the published limits: no single item over three hundred pounds or needing more than two people to lift, nothing longer than eight feet, nothing holding liquids such as oils or fuel, and cords and similar parts taped or tied closed. Keep refused material out of the pickup entirely, which means no household or food waste, no tires, no truck canopies, no riding lawn mowers, no hot tubs, no remodeling or building material and no hazardous waste.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress and box spring are on the hauler's bulky item furniture list, and the set counts as one item out of the four allowed each year. King County also recycles mattresses, futons and box springs at five transfer stations for a per item handling fee, and the new South County fact sheet lists mattresses among its recycling services.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. A mattress and box spring set counts as one item in the free annual bulky item pickup for a Waste Management Auburn residential garbage customer, scheduled on 253-939-9792. A household that takes the set to a King County transfer station instead pays the published handling fee for each item, or the disposal fee if it goes to one of the stations that disposes rather than recycles mattresses.
When & how
Schedule the annual pickup and put the set out on the regular service day, or take it to a King County transfer station that accepts mattresses for recycling.
Get it ready
Keep the set dry, because the county does not accept a wet mattress, futon or box spring at its recycling stations, and note that a stained or torn item is still accepted there. Keep it out of a load with refused material on the hauler side, and remember the county limits a customer to six mattress items per day without prior approval.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Auburn.

How much does mattress removal cost in Auburn?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Auburn?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

How many bulky items can I put out in Auburn?

Up to four large items once a year, free with the residential garbage service. The pickup has to be scheduled in advance with Waste Management on 253-939-9792 and it happens on the regular service day. No single item may weigh more than three hundred pounds or need more than two people to lift, nothing may be longer than eight feet, and nothing may hold liquids such as oils or fuel.Official guidance

What will the Auburn bulky item pickup not take?

Household garbage, animal waste and food waste are refused, along with tires, truck canopies, riding lawn mowers and hot tubs. Every kind of remodeling or building material is refused too, including doors, cabinets, bathtubs and tub walls, sinks, toilets, vanities, countertops, carpets, flooring, sheet rock, insulation, roofing, cement blocks, decking, fencing and lumber. Batteries, fluorescent fixtures and bulbs, hazardous materials and propane tanks are also refused, and the hauler's sheet points those loads at the King County transfer stations.Official guidance

How do I get rid of a mattress in Auburn?

Put the mattress and box spring out on the free annual bulky item pickup, because the hauler lists them under furniture and counts the set as one item within the four item allowance. Call Waste Management on 253-939-9792 to schedule it. A household that would rather haul the set can use a King County transfer station, where Bow Lake, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline and Vashon recycle mattresses, futons and box springs for a handling fee per item with a limit of six items per customer and no wet items, and the South County fact sheet lists mattresses among its recycling services as well.Official guidance

What does Auburn charge for bulky items and disposal?

The free annual bulky item pickup covers up to four large items once a year for a residential Waste Management customer, and the city does not publish a curbside rate because the hauler bills the account directly, so the monthly amount is confirmed with Waste Management on 253-939-9792. Self hauling goes by the King County fee schedule, where garbage carries a minimum for the first three hundred twenty pounds and a per ton rate above it, a mattress recycled at a county station carries a per item handling fee with a limit of six items per customer, a refrigerant appliance is thirty dollars per unit, clean untreated wood has its own recycling rate, and a twenty five dollar unsecured load fee applies. A household with a ProviderOne, EBT or ORCA LIFT card can take twenty dollars off each type of waste on each visit through the Cleanup LIFT discount.Official guidance

What will Auburn not take in the bulky item pickup?

Household garbage, animal waste and food waste, tires, truck canopies, riding lawn mowers and hot tubs. Every kind of remodeling or building material is refused, including doors, cabinets, bathtubs and tub walls, sinks, toilets, vanities, countertops, carpets, flooring, sheet rock, insulation, roofing, cement blocks, decking, fencing and lumber. Batteries, fluorescent fixtures and bulbs, hazardous materials and propane tanks are refused too, and those loads go to the King County transfer stations or to the free household hazardous waste drop-off instead.Official guidance

Who handles garbage and disposal in Auburn?

Waste Management collects under the city franchise for all Auburn customers inside city limits and handles customer service and billing on 253-939-9792, while King County runs the disposal side through the South County Recycling and Transfer Station in Algona and the county solid waste information line on 206-477-4466. The city's own page names those contacts and points weather delays at the hauler's service alerts page, and the county's hazardous waste program runs the free household hazardous waste collection at the station.Official guidance

Are there recycling or bulky item events in Auburn?

The city lists a King County recycling event at Pioneer Elementary and the year round bulky item collection, and the neighborhood litter program runs a city contracted litter crew from Monday through Friday with route maps published, while large bulky items that create a safety concern are collected as soon as possible. Bulky item collection itself is the year round route, since the free pickup can be scheduled at any point in the year for a residential customer.Official guidance
