A mattress is one of the household items the county excepts from its size rule, so it is accepted as garbage at the transfer stations, and a hauler pickup can be arranged through the franchised company instead.

Keep the mattress dry, cover the load for the trip, and unload it yourself at the station because customers handle their own vehicles there.
Edmonds has no city collection crew: three franchised companies each serve their own part of the city, so the service level, the cart and the collection day all come from Sound Disposal, Republic Services or Waste Management NW depending on the address. Garbage is weekly with a range of container sizes, the hauler supplies the recycling container, and the yard and food waste cart is an optional extra service.
The optional yard waste cart takes grass clippings, leaves, weeds, brush, prunings and branches under four feet long and no more than four inches in diameter, plus food scraps and food soiled paper if the household opts in. Plastic bags are never allowed, and dirt, rocks, sod, pet waste, barbecue ashes, metal, bricks, lumber, treated wood, plastics and metals are all refused in the cart.
