Ready for it to go

The old sofa can stop holding up your plans.

You know it needs to go. The price, the pickup day and knowing it is done should be easy to settle, too.

A replacement is on the way.

Give the old couch its own pickup day. Check what your retailer will remove, then book the part you still need handled.

The move has enough moving parts.

See the price before you book and choose from the available dates. One less job to arrange before handing back the keys.

You are ready for the space back.

You do not need a whole room to clear. Book the sofa, recliner or sectional that needs to go, and follow the pickup through updates and photos.

The right sofa. The right price.

Count the sections, not the cushions.

A loveseat, a sleeper and a sectional can look similar in a photo. Match the shape and features so your online price covers what is actually going.

Three structural sectional modules slightly separated, with all cushions remaining on their bases.
This example has three structural sections. The cushions do not add to the count.

A straight sofa or loveseat

Choose Standard sofa for fixed seats with no pull-out bed or reclining mechanism. One whole sofa is one item.

A sectional

Count its structural sections, not the loose cushions. Choose the piece count, then check for a sleeper or reclining feature. One sectional booking covers the configuration you select.

A pull-out bed or reclining seats

Choose Sleeper sofa or Reclining sofa for those mechanisms. A single reclining chair has its own Recliner choice. All sofa types also includes futons and sofas with a chaise.

Couches and furniture

Accepted with preparation

A couch, chair or table leaves on a bulky item pickup booked with the city's hauler. Furniture is disposed as garbage rather than recycled, so the reuse route comes first for anything that still works.

City cost & eligibility
From $37.3 each charged sofa or chair, with the first bulky item in the year free. Single-family Kirkland households, booked through Waste Management on 425-587-0040 or pnwrsservices@wm.com. Charges are per occurrence per item and subject to tax.
When & how
Book with the hauler before the collection day and set the piece at the curb for the arranged day, out by 7 a.m.
Get it ready
Keep furniture out of the green garbage cart, which takes bagged household garbage only, and out of the recycling carts. Do not leave it on the roadside or in a public place, because the city treats that as illegal dumping. Metal pieces such as filing cabinets and metal chairs can instead go to the free scrap metal area at a county transfer station.

Book the bulky pickup before the item goes out

Bulky items are collected by appointment. Call Waste Management at 425-587-0040 or email pnwrsservices@wm.com, describe the item, and put it at the curb for the arranged day rather than leaving it out and hoping a crew passes. The hauler's phone line is open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Prepare a self haul load for a county station

Sort recyclables, yard waste, clean wood and garbage before arriving, because the Houghton station does not take corrugated cardboard in the garbage and refuses televisions, computers and major appliances for disposal. Secure the load, since King County charges an unsecured load fee, keep the combined vehicle and trailer length inside the station limit, and expect to pay at the scale house by card, cash or Apple Pay.

Haul the load to a King County transfer station

A Kirkland household with a mattress to recycle, a refrigerant appliance, construction material or a mixed load that should not go in the carts.

Cost & conditions
From $40.25 for for a garbage load of up to 320 pounds, with mattresses and refrigerant appliances charged per item at the station rates. Payment is by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, cash or Apple Pay, and a Cleanup LIFT discount applies with a ProviderOne, EBT or ORCA LIFT card.
Arrange it
Drive the sorted load to the Houghton station at 11724 NE 60th Street in Kirkland, or to Factoria or Shoreline for mattress and refrigerant appliance recycling, and pay at the scale house.

Televisions, computers, monitors, major appliances, batteries, pesticides, propane tanks, sharps and motor oil are refused. Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Kirkland means a King County transfer station. The Houghton station on NE 60th Street sits inside the city in the Bridle Trails area, and the Factoria station in Bellevue and the Shoreline station are the nearer options for recycling rather than disposal. Customers must live or do business in King County outside Seattle and Milton, loads are paid at the scale house by card, cash or Apple Pay, and the charge is by weight with a minimum for the first 320 pounds. The choice of station matters: a mattress is recycled at Factoria and Shoreline but handled as garbage at Houghton, and refrigerant appliances are recycled at Factoria and Shoreline for a per unit fee. Televisions, computers, monitors, major appliances, batteries, pesticides, propane tanks, sharps and motor oil are refused, so the free E-Cycle Washington drop off at Pacific Power Batteries of Kirkland or Goodwill Juanita is the route for a screen. Renovation material has to arrive without asbestos or hazardous waste and without a hydraulic dump bed unless construction material is a small share of the load. Garbage for disposal, separated recyclables including cardboard and textiles, mattress disposal, up to four passenger car tires per vehicle, and metal for the free scrap metal area.

Customers must live or do business in King County outside Seattle and Milton. Corrugated cardboard is not accepted in the garbage, televisions, computers, monitors and major appliances are not accepted for disposal, more than six mattresses a day need prior clearance, and rigid items over eight feet or dense items over 200 pounds need Waste Clearance. Kirkland's own appliance page lists Houghton for free non-refrigerant appliance recycling while King County's restriction page lists major appliance recycling at other stations, so confirm an appliance load with the station before hauling it.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Couch removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Kirkland.

How much does couch removal cost in Kirkland?

A standard sofa is $79 as the first item and $29 additional. Sectionals, sleepers and reclining sofas have their own choices. Select everything that is going to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can you pick up my couch today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the couch outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We send pickup updates and photos when it is done; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

How do I book a sectional for removal?

Open Sectional in the sofa choices, count its structural sections, and select any sleeper or reclining feature. Count the sections with their own bases, not loose cushions. The matching catalog choice covers one complete sectional of that configuration. Text a photo before booking if you are unsure.

Will you carry my couch out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. Arrange for the sofa to be moved through the apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load and haul it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Arrange any dismantling needed to get it outside beforehand.

Do I need to wait at home for couch pickup?

You do not need to be home when your booked sofa is outside and accessible. Add photos and pickup-location notes to your order so the right pieces are easy to identify. We send updates and completion photos. Confirm any building access restrictions with us before booking.

Should a usable couch go to the curb in Kirkland?

The curbside bulky pickup sends furniture to the landfill, so the city asks residents to donate, sell or give away furniture that still works. The Furniture Repair Bank takes pieces at the city's WM Recycle Right Events, secondhand stores such as the Northwest Center may take smaller items, and neighborhood sharing groups take working furniture too.Official guidance

How does bulky item collection work in Kirkland?

Oversized items are booked with Waste Management rather than a city crew: call 425-587-0040 or email pnwrsservices@wm.com. Each single-family home has one bulky item collection a year at no additional cost and every further item is charged per item. Furniture and mattresses go to the landfill on that route, while a mattress can be recycled and a refrigerant appliance can be recycled for a fee at a King County transfer station instead.Official guidance

When should a Kirkland resident use a county transfer station?

The Houghton station on NE 60th Street is inside Kirkland, and Factoria in Bellevue and Shoreline are the nearer stations for recycling. Customers must live or do business in King County outside Seattle and Milton, loads are charged by weight with a minimum for the first 320 pounds, and televisions, computers, major appliances, batteries and some dense items are refused or need prior clearance, so confirm a mixed load before hauling it.Official guidance
