Washers, dryers, stoves, hot water tanks, microwaves and metal housing dishwashers recycle free for residents, while a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, heat pump or dehumidifier is refused there.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Snohomish County states its recycling areas are free of charge for residential customers only, and it takes household appliances without refrigerant or CFCs, including washers, dryers, stoves and ranges, hot water tanks, microwaves and dishwashers with metal housing only. A refrigerator, freezer, dehumidifier, air conditioner or heat pump is not accepted in that stream.
When & how
Take the unit to a transfer station recycling area any day between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., or take a refrigerant or CFC unit to a private appliance recycler.
Get it ready
Keep the unit free of garbage and remove extra plastic where possible, because the county requires the appliance to arrive clean. For a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, heat pump, dehumidifier or water cooler the county lists appliance recyclers instead, including Ace Metal in Mukilteo on 425-493-6802 and Appliance Service and Parts in Granite Falls on 360-386-8503, and the county hazardous waste station refuses those units as well.
The county recycling area is free, but it refuses a lot
County recycling areas are free for residential customers only and take appliances without refrigerant, household batteries, motor oil up to 10 gallons a day, antifreeze, oil filters, lead acid batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, glass bottles and jars, tin and aluminum cans, propane tanks of barbecue size, lawn mowers with the fluids drained and the battery removed, and scrap metal 8 feet or less that is 85 percent metal or more. They refuse electronics and send them to E-Cycle Washington, refuse mattresses and take them as garbage only, refuse refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, heat pumps and dehumidifiers and send those to appliance recyclers, and refuse yard or clean wood debris at every facility.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Take the load to the North County station at 19600 63rd Avenue NE in Arlington or the Airport Road station at 10700 Minuteman Drive in Everett, any day between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with the load covered and secured.
Dangerous waste, moderate risk waste and yard or clean wood debris are refused, electronics go to E-Cycle Washington instead, refrigerators and other refrigerant units go to a private appliance recycler, mattresses travel as garbage, and an unsecured load costs more.

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
