Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Furniture, mattresses, box springs and appliances that do not fit in a cart are collected from the curb by appointment. The hauler's rate table prices each group per item, and appliances sit outside the free yearly allowance.
Once a year a Mercer Island household can set out extra garbage plus two non-appliance bulky items such as a mattress, a couch or a chair with no collection charge, as long as the pile stays inside the published limit and appliances stay out of it.
A mattress or box spring is named on the island's bulky item list, so it fits the free yearly non-appliance allowance, and beyond that it is a per item curbside charge or a self hauled trip to the county station.
Appliances are collected at the curb by appointment and are always charged, because the free yearly collection covers non-appliance items only. Doors come off before the piece goes out, and the county station recycles the unit rather than burying it.
The island has its own free state electronics site. E-Recycle MI on SE 30th Street takes computers, monitors, laptops, DVD players and televisions at no charge, and the hauler's Issaquah store takes small electronics and appliances.
Remodel and demolition material is a weighed load at the county transfer station, because the island has no debris box programme published with the city or the hauler. The county sets firm limits on the vehicle, the length of the material and the size of the pieces.
Tires never go in a cart. The Factoria transfer station has tire recycling bins for a small number of passenger tires, and the county publishes the limit rather than a tire rate.
Exercise equipment is named on no Mercer Island or hauler list, so the machine is confirmed with the hauler before it goes out, and a heavy machine runs into the county weight threshold if it is self hauled.
