City cost & eligibility
No charge. Residential customers using the recycling area at the Southwest Recycling and Transfer Station for household appliances without refrigerant or CFCs, with the item free of garbage. A plastic-housing dishwasher is accepted as garbage at the regular garbage rates instead, and lawn mowers are taken with the fluids drained and the battery removed.

Get it ready

When & how
Call the recycler or Waste Management first, confirm that the unit will be accepted and what it costs, then move it on the day that is agreed.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost the unit, tape the doors shut or remove them for safety, and leave the refrigerant circuit sealed. Confirm with the receiving business who recovers the refrigerant, because the county pages do not describe that step for a household unit.
