Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Every Richland household gets a gray garbage cart and a green yard waste cart collected weekly on its designated day, and a blue recycling cart can be added to the account and is collected every other week on a different day.
The city's own landfill on Twin Bridges Road is the route for household material that no cart will hold. A Richland resident load is priced by the load up to 1,200 pounds and by the ton above it, and it takes ordinary residential waste including construction and demolition debris and extra refuse.
Richland does not offer a curbside large item pickup, so a couch leaves the house on a trailer to the Horn Rapids Landfill as ordinary residential waste, or it goes to a reuse outlet while it is still usable.
A mattress is ordinary household material, so it rides a self-hauled load to the Horn Rapids Landfill and is priced with the rest of the load rather than by the piece. The city does not collect large items at the curb.
The landfill takes white goods such as stoves, washers, dryers and hot water heaters at a small per unit charge, and a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner with refrigerant carries a much larger per unit charge for Benton County residents.
The landfill takes no electronic waste at all. Televisions, computer towers, laptops, monitors and e-readers are free through the state E-Cycle Washington programme at the registered locations in Benton County.
The Horn Rapids Landfill takes construction and demolition debris as part of an ordinary residential load, and it prices dirt, rock, concrete and asphalt on their own per ton rates. Concrete and asphalt also have a dedicated recycler in Kennewick.
Tires are priced by the piece at the landfill, with a higher rate when the rim is still on, and heavy equipment tires are charged by the ton.
Exercise equipment is named on no Richland or Benton County list, so the machine is confirmed with the solid waste line before it is loaded and then travels as ordinary residential waste.
The handoff matters
Carts go out by 6:00 a.m. on the designated collection day, at least three feet from cars, trees, mailboxes and fences, with a minimum of 14 feet of clearance overhead, the wheels as close to the curb as possible and the lid closed. Garbage and yard waste are collected weekly and recycling, when the household has added it, every other week on a different day.
