Leave the appliance whole rather than breaking it apart at the curb, and keep refrigerant, oil and other chemicals out of the garbage cart. City code makes it unlawful to place hazardous waste, medical waste or other dangerous substances in a cart or dumpster.
The City does not collect construction debris and says contractors handle what their projects generate. Liquids, paints and other hazardous materials are not collected at the curb, and hazardous waste, medical waste and other dangerous substances cannot go in the carts.

Florence residents can haul their own loads. The city landfill at 29485 County Road 14 takes nonhazardous construction and demolition waste generated inside the city limits with proof of residency, and city residents may put household waste in the dumpsters there. It opens Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., closes Saturday, and the City lists the county sites at 5450 and 5700 Hwy 157 as the Saturday option. Recycling drop-off is separate: the Recycling Plant at 1200 Terrace Street keeps outdoor bins open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and available to anyone. Do holidays change the collection day?+
Most holidays do not. The City's published schedule lists Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day with no change, while Juneteenth, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day move the affected pickups one day later, with the Friday pickup going out on Saturday.
