The City's heavy trash description names furniture and material from minor household projects but does not list mattresses, so a mattress needs a call before it goes to the curb.
City cost & eligibility
The City publishes no mattress rule and no mattress charge. Call the Solid Waste and Recycling office at (256) 760-6495 to confirm that a mattress will be collected with the heavy trash before you set it out.
When & how
Confirm the mattress with the Solid Waste and Recycling office, then place it with the heavy trash pile on the collection day, inside the four foot by ten foot by five foot pile limit.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress out of the garbage cart and off the top of the pile. A pile that exceeds the published dimensions is left for the resident to dispose of, so build the pile around the size it will actually be.
A pile, including brush, cannot exceed four feet high, ten feet long and five feet deep. Put it within two feet of the street's edge and about five feet from obstacles, keep it away from limbs, lines and water meters, and expect an oversized pile to be left for the resident to dispose of.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Weekly heavy trash pickup
Homes with furniture, bagged yard waste or material from a minor household project such as cabinets or a toilet.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Homes receiving City collection on the assigned weekly collection day. The City publishes no separate heavy trash charge for material that fits the pile limits.
Arrange it
Set the pile at the curb by the collection day, within two feet of the street's edge and clear of obstacles, and keep it inside the four foot by ten foot by five foot limit.
An oversized pile is left behind. Construction debris is not collected at all, and appliances, electronics and exercise equipment need a call to (256) 760-6495 before they go out.
Florence residents can haul their own loads. The city landfill at 29485 County Road 14 takes nonhazardous construction and demolition waste generated inside the city limits with proof of residency, and city residents may put household waste in the dumpsters there. It opens Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., closes Saturday, and the City lists the county sites at 5450 and 5700 Hwy 157 as the Saturday option. Recycling drop-off is separate: the Recycling Plant at 1200 Terrace Street keeps outdoor bins open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and available to anyone. The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.
Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Florence?+
Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.
Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?+
The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.
Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?+
Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.
Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?+
You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Do holidays change the collection day?+
Most holidays do not. The City's published schedule lists Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day with no change, while Juneteenth, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day move the affected pickups one day later, with the Friday pickup going out on Saturday.
