Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Exercise equipment is not named in the City's collection rules or in its heavy trash description, so a treadmill or elliptical needs a call before it goes out.
City cost & eligibility
The City publishes no rate for exercise equipment and does not name it among heavy trash items. Call the Solid Waste and Recycling office at (256) 760-6495 with the machine type and weight to confirm it can go out with the heavy trash pile.
When & how
Confirm the machine first, then set it with the heavy trash pile on the collection day and keep the pile inside its published size limits.
Get it ready
Take the machine down as far as it will go, keep the loose weights and parts with it, and keep anything with a battery or a screen out of the pile until the office confirms how that part is handled.
A pile, including brush, cannot exceed four feet high, ten feet long and five feet deep. Put it within two feet of the street's edge and about five feet from obstacles, keep it away from limbs, lines and water meters, and expect an oversized pile to be left for the resident to dispose of.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Weekly heavy trash pickup
Homes with furniture, bagged yard waste or material from a minor household project such as cabinets or a toilet.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Homes receiving City collection on the assigned weekly collection day. The City publishes no separate heavy trash charge for material that fits the pile limits.
Arrange it
Set the pile at the curb by the collection day, within two feet of the street's edge and clear of obstacles, and keep it inside the four foot by ten foot by five foot limit.
An oversized pile is left behind. Construction debris is not collected at all, and appliances, electronics and exercise equipment need a call to (256) 760-6495 before they go out.
Florence residents can haul their own loads. The city landfill at 29485 County Road 14 takes nonhazardous construction and demolition waste generated inside the city limits with proof of residency, and city residents may put household waste in the dumpsters there. It opens Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., closes Saturday, and the City lists the county sites at 5450 and 5700 Hwy 157 as the Saturday option. Recycling drop-off is separate: the Recycling Plant at 1200 Terrace Street keeps outdoor bins open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and available to anyone. Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.
Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?+
Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.
How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?+

Do holidays change the collection day?+
Most holidays do not. The City's published schedule lists Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day with no change, while Juneteenth, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day move the affected pickups one day later, with the Friday pickup going out on Saturday.
