Electronics are not part of the weekly curbside recycling can or the everyday drop-off list. The city takes them during special recycling days in the last two weeks of each quarter, alongside paint and fluorescent bulbs.

When & how
The 2026 special recycling days run March 21 to 30, June 20 to 29, September 26 to October 5, and December 19 through January 5, 2027, which the city describes as the last two weeks of each quarter. Anything outside those windows has to wait or use another route.
Get it ready
Wipe the drive or reset the device and keep the screen whole, because a broken tube is a handling hazard. Never put electronics in the curbside recycling can or in the debris pile, and keep them out of the drop-off bins except during a special recycling drive.
Debris is out the night before the route day or by 6:15 a.m.
The residential debris pass is a weekly route rather than an appointment, so no call is needed and the material has to be at the collection point the night before the scheduled route day or in the morning by 6:15 a.m. Only single-family residential homes qualify for the service, and the pile has to be household material from that address.
Garbage containers sit close to the edge but clear of the lanes
Inside the corporate limits, containers go one to five feet from the street or alley edge with clearance from vehicle and bicycle lanes, no earlier than 4 p.m. the day before collection, and come back in by 7 p.m. on the collection day. Beach Boulevard properties on Alabama Highway 182 use designated collection points instead, staged no earlier than 4 a.m. and removed by 6 p.m. the same day.
Containers are stored behind the front building line
When a container is not staged for collection, it stays behind the front building line, and a property over one acre keeps its containers at least 100 feet from the public right of way. In designated areas a waste management crew handles container placement and retrieval under a city council resolution, so residents there do not stage the container themselves.
Keep residue, aerosol, wax and styrofoam out of the recycling can
Carts go out the night before or by 6 a.m. on the service day. Aluminum cans, cardboard, newspaper, magazines, office paper, paper products, rinsed plastic jugs and rinsed tin cans belong in the curbside can, while anything containing food residue, oil, aerosol, wax or styrofoam is refused there.
Sort everything into the right bin at the drop-off center
The drop-off recycling center stays open around the clock, and all material has to be sorted into the proper bins. Styrofoam, cardboard, plastic, plastic bags, paper, aluminum cans, household batteries, glass jars and bottles, scrap metal and tin cans are accepted, while medical waste, aerosol cans, paint and tires are refused, and paint, electronics and fluorescent bulbs wait for the special recycling drives.
Solvents, pesticides and herbicides are held for the annual collection
The city's residential debris policy says environmentally dangerous hazardous waste such as solvents, pesticides and herbicides must be held until the City announces its annual hazardous waste collection, when residents bring them to a central staging area for proper testing, packaging and disposal. Paint, chemicals and batteries are otherwise kept out of the debris pile and handled through the city's published routes.
