The local disposal guide
Gulf Shores splits household waste between two haulers of record. Republic Services runs the garbage and curbside recycling contract, once a week north of 2nd Avenue and twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays for homes south of and including 2nd Avenue, the Beach Rental District. The city itself runs the weekly residential debris pass, which is the route for yard debris, cardboard boxes, old furniture, mattresses, white goods and other large household material, and it needs no appointment: debris goes out no sooner than one day before the route day and no later than 6:15 a.m. that morning, and the service covers single-family homes rather than condos, hotels or businesses. The policy behind that route publishes the working limits: each item is limited to 300 pounds and ten feet, white goods are stacked separately from yard debris and collected separately, yard trash beyond four cubic yards is billed to the property owner, garbage mixed with normal trash means the entire pile is not picked up, and construction refuse from contractors or major projects is refused. Electronics, paint and fluorescent bulbs wait for the quarterly special recycling days at the drop-off center on West 36th Avenue, which otherwise stays open around the clock for sorted recyclables and scrap metal.

White goods are named in the city's residential debris policy, which says they are picked up by both the franchised hauler and the City and must be stacked separately from normal yard debris so they are collected separately; the drop-off recycling center also recycles scrap metal, which the city says includes appliances.
Electronics are not part of the weekly curbside recycling can or the everyday drop-off list. The city takes them during special recycling days in the last two weeks of each quarter, alongside paint and fluorescent bulbs.
The weekly residential debris pass is Gulf Shores' bulky service: yard debris, cardboard boxes, old furniture, mattresses, white goods and similar household material, collected on the scheduled route day without an appointment, with yard trash beyond four cubic yards billed to the property owner.
The city's residential debris policy refuses commercially created trash and construction refuse, and homeowner created construction refuse from major lot clearing, home construction, major renovation, repair or demolition, while debris from routine or minor homeowner maintenance is collected, excluding glass, tires, batteries and paint.
Exercise equipment is not named on the Gulf Shores debris list, which covers yard debris, cardboard boxes, furniture, appliances and more, so a machine is confirmed with Public Works before it goes out.
The handoff matters
The residential debris pass is a weekly route rather than an appointment, so no call is needed and the material has to be at the collection point the night before the scheduled route day or in the morning by 6:15 a.m. Only single-family residential homes qualify for the service, and the pile has to be household material from that address.
City frequently asked questions, including debris pickup eligibility and set-out, what the debris truck takes, the 24/7 drop-off center address and accepted items, the special recycling days and the scrap metal answerInside the corporate limits, containers go one to five feet from the street or alley edge with clearance from vehicle and bicycle lanes, no earlier than 4 p.m. the day before collection, and come back in by 7 p.m. on the collection day. Beach Boulevard properties on Alabama Highway 182 use designated collection points instead, staged no earlier than 4 a.m. and removed by 6 p.m. the same day.

In designated areas a waste management crew handles container placement and retrieval under a city council resolution, so residents there do not stage the container themselves.
