Two county gates handle what the city will not take
The free household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off sits at the Perdido Landfill and is open to county households Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The landfill itself takes solid waste, yard trash, tires, mattresses, clean fill and clean concrete from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturday. The Palafox Transfer Station at 2906 N. Palafox St. takes solid waste by weight on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The sanitation division collects vegetative debris once a week on a separate day from garbage, covering grass, hedge clippings, pine straw, leaves and limbs that do not exceed six feet in length or eight inches in diameter. Yard waste does not go in the garbage container, and the landfill charges yard trash at its own published per-ton rate when a resident hauls it there instead.
