A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulky items and household junk

Special rules apply

Furniture, appliances and small piles of repair debris are too large for the container, so the city sells a scheduled special collection for them and also sweeps each neighborhood once a year.

City cost & eligibility
The city charges for a scheduled special collection and states that the scheduled price is significantly lower than the price for an unscheduled collection, but no amount is published, so confirm the items, the pickup day and the cost with the sanitation office at 850-435-1890 before anything goes to the curb.
When & how
Call 850-435-1890 or send a service request to book a special collection, or wait for the posted Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup day for the address, when items go out before 7 a.m. and no sooner than three days before the cleanup.
Get it ready
Keep the pile away from low hanging lines, poles, fences and mailboxes, keep tires and paint cans separate from everything else on a cleanup day, and keep concrete, bricks, dirt, sod, roofing material, shingles, chemicals and contractor debris out of the pile entirely because the city will not collect them. Anything a contractor removed from the property stays with the contractor.

Couches, sofas and furniture

Accepted with preparation

Old furniture is named on both city routes, the scheduled special collection and the once-a-year neighborhood cleanup day.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no amount for furniture. A scheduled special collection carries a fee that the city says is much lower than an unscheduled collection, and the neighborhood cleanup day is the no-extra-cost route, so confirm which route you are using and what it costs with the sanitation office at 850-435-1890.
When & how
Book a special collection for the address, or put furniture out before 7 a.m. on the neighborhood cleanup day for the area and no sooner than three days before that day.
Get it ready
Keep upholstery dry and liftable, pull the pile clear of low hanging lines, poles, fences and mailboxes, and keep tires and paint cans separate from furniture on a cleanup day. Do not put furniture in the garbage container, and do not put contractor material in the pile.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses are named as eligible material on the city cleanup day, are the kind of large household item the special collection covers, and are also accepted from households at the county landfill.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no mattress amount, and the county landfill applies its own per-ton mattress charge with a per-household count limit and a separate processing requirement, so confirm the route and its cost with the city sanitation office at 850-435-1890 or the county waste department at 850-937-2160.
When & how
Book a city special collection, put the mattress out before 7 a.m. on the neighborhood cleanup day for the address, or haul it to the county landfill on a weekday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. or a Saturday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep bedding dry and liftable, keep it clear of low hanging lines, poles, fences and mailboxes on a cleanup day, and cover any load taken to the landfill or expect the uncovered load fee. The county sheet limits mattresses to four per household, and mattress processing at the landfill has to be scheduled and approved in advance.

Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

Household appliances are named on the city special collection and cleanup lists, while the county household hazardous waste site takes chemicals and electronics but not appliances.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no appliance amount and the county program does not accept appliances at all, so confirm the item, the pickup day and the price with the sanitation office at 850-435-1890, where a scheduled special collection costs less than an unscheduled one.
When & how
Book the special collection ahead of the pickup day, or set the appliance out before 7 a.m. on the neighborhood cleanup day for the address.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, remove any door that could trap a child, and ask when you book whether a refrigerator, freezer or other cooling unit needs the refrigerant handled first, because the city publishes no such step. Keep the unit clear of wires, poles, fences and mailboxes, and keep it out of the garbage container.

Televisions and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Escambia County takes televisions and most household electronics at the Perdido Landfill year round at no charge to county residents, and the city also names household electronics on the cleanup day.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free to Escambia County residents at the county household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off at the Perdido Landfill. No material is accepted from businesses, and the chemical side of the same program applies per-customer limits to bulbs, paint, gasoline and antifreeze.
When & how
Drop off Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Perdido Landfill, use a county Regional Roundup event, or put the item out before 7 a.m. on the neighborhood cleanup day for the address.
Get it ready
Bring electronics to the household hazardous waste area before the rest of the load, because a trailer carrying both is handled as a split load, and keep the item out of the garbage and recycling containers. Household electronics do not go in the city garbage container, where only everyday household waste belongs.

Construction and remodeling debris

Not on the regular city route

The city refuses construction, remodeling and demolition material at the curb in every collection, so the load goes to the county landfill or to a hauler the city permits.

City cost & eligibility
The city does not collect this material. Take it to the Escambia County Perdido Landfill, where solid waste is charged by weight with a minimum load charge and clean fill, dirt and clean concrete are accepted at no charge, or hire a hauler that holds a city solid waste franchise.
When & how
The landfill takes loads Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and asks that loads needing manual offloading arrive at least 30 minutes before closing.
Get it ready
Separate clean concrete and clean fill before leaving the property, because the landfill takes them at no charge when the concrete has no rebar or welded wire fabric and the fill has no roots, branches or rock. Keep asbestos and other special waste off a routine load, because those need review, approval and scheduling before acceptance, and cover the load or pay the uncovered load fee. Debris generated by a contractor stays the contractor's responsibility under city code.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise machines are not named on either city list, so the pickup has to be confirmed with the sanitation office before the equipment goes out.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no amount for a machine and does not name exercise equipment on the special collection or cleanup lists, so confirm the item, the pickup day and the price with the sanitation office at 850-435-1890.
When & how
Book a special collection, or put the machine out before 7 a.m. on the neighborhood cleanup day for the address and no sooner than three days before that day.
Get it ready
Break the machine down as far as it comes apart, take off loose weights and pedals, keep it clear of low hanging lines, poles, fences and mailboxes, and keep it out of the garbage container, where only everyday household waste belongs.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Large items move by request, not by the weekly route

The weekly truck does not take furniture, appliances or repair debris, so those items need either a scheduled special collection booked through the sanitation office at 850-435-1890 or the once-a-year Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup day for the address. The city describes the special collection as covering old furniture, household appliances and small amounts of debris from home repairs or remodeling, and it charges for that service with a lower price for the scheduled version.

What the cleanup day takes and what it refuses

Items go curbside before 7 a.m. on the scheduled day and no sooner than three days before it. Appliances, electronics, household junk, furniture, mattresses, carpeting, grills without propane tanks, bicycles, toys, tires and old paint cans are eligible; concrete, bricks, blocks, roofing, drywall, more than one cubic yard of lumber, chemicals, pesticides, explosives, ammunition, auto parts, dirt, sod, propane tanks, garbage and yard trash are not. Keep tires and paint cans separate from the rest of the pile.

Two county gates handle what the city will not take

The free household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off sits at the Perdido Landfill and is open to county households Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The landfill itself takes solid waste, yard trash, tires, mattresses, clean fill and clean concrete from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturday. The Palafox Transfer Station at 2906 N. Palafox St. takes solid waste by weight on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Pensacola residents keep a city container at the curb for the weekly route and use two drop-off systems for everything else. The city transfer station at 100 W. Leonard St. takes recyclables from city households only, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., and asks residents to call ahead if they need help. Escambia County runs the rest. The Perdido Landfill at 13009 Beulah Road in Cantonment weighs what comes in, whether it is household debris, yard trash, tires, mattresses, clean fill or clean concrete, and it charges by weight with a minimum load charge, while the household hazardous waste and electronics area on the same site is free to county households and handles paint, oil, gasoline, batteries, pool chemicals, propane tanks and the whole electronics list. The household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off is for residential households only and accepts nothing from businesses. Business tires and oversized tires are refused. Asbestos and other special waste need review, approval and scheduling by county staff before acceptance, and mattress processing has to be scheduled and approved in advance. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Pensacola.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Pensacola?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

How do I arrange a bulky item pickup in Pensacola?

Request a special collection from the city sanitation office at 850-435-1890 or through the city service request form. The city describes this route as covering old furniture, household appliances and small amounts of debris from home repairs or remodeling, and the same kinds of items can also go out on the neighborhood cleanup day that each city neighborhood gets once a year.Official guidance

Does the city charge for a bulky item pickup?

Yes. The city charges for a scheduled special collection and says the scheduled price is significantly less than the price of an unscheduled collection, without publishing either figure, so confirm the amount when you call. The Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup day for the address is the route that carries no separate collection charge.Official guidance

How is a couch removed in Pensacola?

Through the city special collection, which the city lists as covering old furniture, or on the Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup day for the address. Both routes want the item at the curb clear of obstructions, and the cleanup day wants it out before 7 a.m. and no sooner than three days earlier.Official guidance

Can furniture wait for the neighborhood cleanup?

Yes, if the address falls in the cleanup area for that year, which the city maps. Every city neighborhood gets one cleanup day a year between January and October, and furniture is named as eligible material along with household appliances and electronics, mattresses, carpeting, grills without propane tanks, bicycles, toys, tires and old paint cans.Official guidance

How do I get rid of a mattress in Pensacola?

Use a city special collection, put it out on the Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup day for the area, or take it to the county Perdido Landfill yourself. Bedding counts as a large household item on the city side, and the county accepts mattresses from households subject to its own per-household count limit and per-ton charge.Official guidance

Will the county landfill take a mattress from a household?

Yes. The county fee schedule caps mattresses at four per household and charges them at the published per-ton mattress rate, and separate mattress processing at the landfill has to be scheduled and approved in advance. Household chemicals and electronics go to a different drop-off area of the same site.Official guidance

How are appliances removed in Pensacola?

The city names household appliances on both the special collection and the neighborhood cleanup list, so request a pickup from the sanitation office or wait for the cleanup day for the address. The county household hazardous waste program lists appliances as material that is not household hazardous waste, so that drop-off is not a route for a washer, dryer or range.Official guidance

What happens with a refrigerator or freezer?

It goes through the same city routes as any other appliance, cleaned out with the doors removed. The city publishes no refrigerant step, so ask when you book whether a cooling unit has to be degassed or tagged before collection, and confirm the price at the same time.Official guidance

Where do televisions and electronics go in Pensacola?

To the Escambia County household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off at the Perdido Landfill, which is free to county residents and open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Household electronics are also named as eligible material on the Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup day.Official guidance

Is there a limit on electronics at the county drop-off?

The county caps the chemical side of the program at no more than 10 fluorescent bulbs or compact fluorescent lamps and up to 20 gallons of paint per customer, and it accepts nothing from businesses. Televisions, computers, monitors, printers, microwaves, game systems and similar household electronics are listed for the same drop-off without a stated count.Official guidance

Does the city take construction debris in Pensacola?

No. City code lists dirt, concrete, bricks, rocks, stones, mortar and roofing material as not acceptable for city collection, along with material that needs special handling such as asbestos, and the sanitation pages repeat that concrete, bricks, dirt, sod, roofing material and shingles are refused. Disposal is the property owner's responsibility, and contractor material belongs to the contractor.Official guidance

Where does construction material go instead?

To the Escambia County Perdido Landfill in Cantonment or to a permitted private hauler. The landfill takes loads Monday through Friday and Saturday, charges solid waste by weight with a minimum load charge, and accepts clean fill, dirt and clean concrete at no charge when they carry no roots, rock, rebar or wire.Official guidance

Will the city take exercise equipment?

The city names appliances, electronics, furniture, mattresses, carpeting, grills, bicycles, toys, tires and paint cans on its cleanup list and household junk on the special collection, but it does not name exercise machines, so confirm the piece with the sanitation office before it goes to the curb.Official guidance

How should a treadmill or elliptical be set out?

Break it down and take off loose weights, then set it out as a single pile that stays clear of low hanging lines, poles, fences and mailboxes. Confirm first whether the city takes the machine through the special collection or whether it belongs to the neighborhood cleanup day for the address.Official guidance

Who handles the trash collection in Pensacola?

The City of Pensacola Sanitation Services division, which collects garbage, recycling and yard waste for city residents and businesses with its own crews and issues the wheeled container that each address uses. Addresses outside the city limits are served by the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority or by their own provider, and the county department handles the landfill and the household chemical program.Official guidance

How do I know when my neighborhood cleanup day is?

The city posts the cleanup dates and an interactive map of the areas, and every city neighborhood gets one cleanup day a year between January and October.
