When & how
Ask Public Works before your area's cleanup week, then put the mattress at the kerb with the trash and recycling bins where it is accepted.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress in one orderly pile that does not block sidewalks, streets, rights of way, alleys, hydrants or water meters, and do not put it out more than a week before the scheduled week.
Eligible items must be available by 6 a.m. on the first day of your designated October or November week, and the city collects them one time only. Items placed out more than a week early create a hazard and may be referred to Code Enforcement.

Residential only, one pickup per address, and not provided to residents of the Orange Grove Mobile Manor or Rancho Mesa Verde subdivisions. Construction material is refused, and any material mixed with bulk clippings or branches is refused as well.
Somerton handles most bulky material with its own once-a-year cleanup rather than a permanent drop-off, so the timetable matters more than the trip: twelve areas open from October, three days each, items out by 6 a.m. on the first day and collected once. The cleanup takes refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, furniture, electronics, rimless tires, bagged lawn and tied branches, and it refuses construction material and anything mixed into a clippings pile. Electronics, motor oil, paint, cleaners, antifreeze, solvents, batteries, pesticides and up to five rimless tires also go to the regional household hazardous waste event that the City of Somerton co-sponsors, which is free to Yuma County residents and runs three mornings a year at 1473 S 2nd Avenue. Outside the city, Yuma County's Waste Management Division runs the transfer stations and the waste tire facility, and the county waste line is 928-341-2500.
