Free appliance pickup

Start with the appliance’s condition, then ask for an actual collection arrangement. Do not count a free recycling drop-off as home pickup.

Look up your own utility’s appliance recycling program. As one local example, PSE&G offers free pickup and rebates for qualifying appliances. Its residential refrigerator and freezer rules include working condition, a size of 10 to 30 cubic feet and a limit of two per household per calendar year.

The program requires an eligible PSE&G residential electric account, or a Butler Electric customer receiving PSE&G residential gas service. That example does not establish eligibility elsewhere. Check your provider’s current offer before counting on a rebate or moving the unit.

If your refrigerator does not cool, describe that accurately. A free offer designed to retire working appliances may not be the right route for a broken one.

A clean appliance that works may have a reuse route. Habitat ReStore is one place to check, with acceptance and collection decided locally. Ask whether your exact unit qualifies and whether pickup has a charge.

Include the brand, model, dimensions, condition and any known problem. Tell the recipient whether the appliance is still installed. An accepted donation and a removal appointment should cover the same item and access arrangement.

Contact the waste provider serving the address and name the appliance. Ask whether it is included in the existing collection service, needs an appointment or has a separate charge. A furniture collection rule may not cover a refrigerator.

For a rental or apartment, check with the property manager before placing anything in a shared collection area. Confirm preparation and the permitted set-out time. If the program is drop-off only, you still need transport, so it has not solved the pickup problem.

Freecycle is a free exchange where people offer items to others in their community. List the appliance honestly, including whether it works and what transport or carrying the recipient would need to arrange.

Agree on collection before treating the appliance as gone. For a broken unit offered for repair or parts, make that condition explicit. An interested message does not establish that someone can safely move it or that the collection will cost nothing.

The same applies to a scrap collector: ask about the exact appliance, collection address and full charge. Metal content alone is not a confirmed free pickup offer.

Check the order rather than assuming. For example, Lowe’s truck-delivery page lists a $50 haul-away charge with replacement delivery and an exception for select Pro Rewards members. Retailer removal can be useful without being free for every customer.

If the unit is unsupported by a free program, you can compare a paid option without committing to it. Dropcurb collects supported appliances from outside, with loading, transport and disposal included. You do not need to buy a replacement appliance.

General pickups start at $59 for eligible small items before applicable sales tax. Large appliances have their own item prices. Choose the actual unit and quantity in booking to see the total.

Arrange disconnection and the move outside before collection. Standard pickup does not include indoor carrying, stairs or uninstalling an appliance. That makes it a good fit for a prepared outdoor handoff, while a unit still installed upstairs needs additional help first.
