Get it ready
Keep the appliance out of every cart and out of the organics and recycling streams, and keep it light enough and shaped so two people can lift it safely. The published guide states no separate refrigerant rule, so ask the hauler about a unit that holds refrigerant when you book.
Call the hauler up to seven days before the service day and no later than noon the day before, and describe the items that will be set out. A pickup takes up to five household items, the first one each quarter is free for a single-family home, items have to be liftable by two people, and loose trash is not picked up.
Appliances, construction material, dirt, sand, stone and concrete, lawn furniture, tires, bulky items and hazardous waste are all excluded from the carts. Hazardous and universal waste cannot go in a cart, down a drain or on the curb, and must go through the county hazardous waste program instead.
