Keep the mattress out of every collection container, because bulk items and furniture are on the unacceptable list for all containers on the hauler's page, and keep it dry and whole for the facility.
The free on-call pickup takes bagged household garbage and yard waste only: up to twelve 32 gallon bags of no more than 50 pounds each, with branches tied in a bundle no larger than 18 inches by 3 feet. Each pickup must be one week apart and on the regular collection day.
