A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

One-time bulky waste landfill voucher

Accepted with preparation

The city and Recology Davis issue a One-Time Bulky Waste Landfill Voucher that is valid from May 1 to October 31, 2026 and was mailed to every Davis resident at the end of April. The voucher covers one free load at the Yolo County Central Landfill, up to a full-size pickup bed, a full-size van, or a small trailer less than three feet high and less than eight feet long.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. One voucher per City of Davis household for one free load at the Yolo County Central Landfill. Proof of residency that matches the address on the voucher is required, only one voucher is accepted per household, the voucher cannot be given to another household, a landscaper or a business, and disposal of anything beyond the one load must be paid for.
When & how
The 2026 voucher is valid from May 1 to October 31, 2026. Take it to the Yolo County Central Landfill at 44090 County Road 28H in Woodland, open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A resident who needs help moving the load can ask Recology Davis about an assisted service appointment.
Get it ready
Separate the materials before the trip so the site can recycle what it can. The voucher accepts appliances, asphalt, bricks, concrete, bulky trash, dirt, soil, sod, electronic waste, furniture, mattresses, green waste, scrap metal, up to nine tires and wood, and it refuses business waste, commercial construction debris and pressure treated wood. Cover the load, because an untarped load is charged at the scale.

Couches and furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is one of the materials the voucher accepts, and the landfill fee schedule charges household furnishing such as a single sofa or chair by the piece. The city also asks residents to donate usable furniture first, and warns that leaving a couch on the street or sidewalk is a City Code violation.

City cost & eligibility
$7 for Yolo County Central Landfill household furnishing rate for a single item such as a sofa or chair. Self-haul the piece to the landfill at 44090 County Road 28H in Woodland, or include it in the one free load covered by the Davis bulky waste voucher. Recology Davis also offers a curbside bulky item pickup for a collection and hauling fee.
When & how
Self-haul loads are accepted Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and a curbside pickup is scheduled by calling Recology Davis at 530-756-4646.
Get it ready
Keep the piece out of the street, the sidewalk and the front yard unless a collection is actually scheduled, because the city treats that as illegal dumping. Take cushions and loose parts off before the load, keep the item off the bike lane, and cover the load in the vehicle or trailer because an untarped load is charged at the scale.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses and box springs are recycled free at the Recology Davis recycling center at 2727 2nd Street during buyback hours and at the Yolo County Central Landfill. A futon mattress is accepted only when it is separated from the frame or base, and the city lists the mattress types the recycler refuses.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free mattress and box spring recycling at the Recology Davis recycling center during buyback hours and at the Yolo County Central Landfill. A futon mattress must be separated from its frame or base, and sleeping bags, pillows, mattress pads and toppers, car beds, crib or bassinet mattresses, waterbeds, air mattresses without upholstery, sofa beds and any mattress that is severely damaged, twisted, wet, soiled or infested are refused.
When & how
Drop a mattress at Recology Davis, 2727 2nd Street, during buyback hours on Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or take it to the Yolo County Central Landfill during its open hours. The piece can also go in the free load covered by the bulky waste voucher.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and clean, because a wet, soiled or infested mattress is refused at the recycler. Wrap it so it does not come apart in the vehicle, keep it off the street and sidewalk, and take the frame apart from a futon before the trip.

Washers, dryers and stoves

Accepted with preparation

The city sends an appliance that no longer works to the Yolo County Central Landfill for recycling, and the county fee schedule prices each appliance type per unit. The hauler states that curbside bulky item pickup does not include appliances, so an appliance moves by self-haul or inside the voucher load.

City cost & eligibility
$16 for Yolo County Central Landfill appliance rate for dishwashers, water heaters and ovens, with small appliances such as microwaves, lawn mowers and barbecues listed at $10 each. Self-haul the appliance to the landfill at 44090 County Road 28H, or include it in the one free load covered by the Davis bulky waste voucher. Recology Davis does not offer curbside pickup for appliances.
When & how
Take the appliance to the landfill Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or include it in a voucher trip during the voucher window from May 1 to October 31, 2026.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, tape or strap the doors so they stay closed in transit, and remove loose cords that could catch during unloading. Keep an appliance out of the curbside carts and out of a curbside bulky pickup, because the hauler does not collect appliances that way.

For a voucher trip to the landfill

Bring the bulky waste voucher and proof of residency that matches the address on it, and keep the load to a full-size pickup bed, a full-size van, or a small trailer less than three feet high and less than eight feet long. Separate the materials so the site can recycle what it can, cover the load because an untarped load is charged, and pay for anything beyond the one free load.

For a paid curbside bulky pickup

Call Recology Davis at 530-756-4646 to schedule a bulky item pickup and to get the collection and hauling price, then put the confirmed items at the curb for the scheduled day. Appliances are not part of curbside bulky pickup, and nothing should be left at the curb on a day when no collection is scheduled, because the city treats household items left on the street or sidewalk as illegal dumping.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Davis.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Davis?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

How does the Davis bulky waste voucher work?

Every Davis household was mailed one voucher that is valid from May 1 to October 31, 2026 for a single free load at the Yolo County Central Landfill. Bring the voucher and proof of residency that matches the address on it, keep the load to a full-size pickup bed, a full-size van or a small trailer under three feet high and under eight feet long, and pay for anything beyond that load. A lost voucher can be replaced through Recology Davis.Official guidance

Where does a couch go in Davis?

A couch goes to the Yolo County Central Landfill, either in the one free load covered by the Davis bulky waste voucher or as a paid self-haul, and the landfill charges household furnishing by the piece. Recology Davis will also collect a bulky item at the curb for a fee quoted by phone, and usable furniture is better donated than thrown away.Official guidance

How do I recycle a mattress in Davis?

Mattresses and box springs are recycled free at the Recology Davis recycling center at 2727 2nd Street during buyback hours and at the Yolo County Central Landfill. Separate a futon mattress from its frame or base first, and leave behind a wet, soiled, infested or severely damaged mattress along with waterbeds, air mattresses without upholstery and sofa beds, because the recycler refuses them.Official guidance

Where do Davis washers, dryers and stoves go?

A non-working appliance goes to the Yolo County Central Landfill for recycling, where the county fee schedule prices each appliance type per unit, or it can ride in the one free load covered by the Davis bulky waste voucher. Recology Davis states that its curbside bulky item pickup does not include appliances, so an appliance cannot be left at the curb for that service.Official guidance

What does Davis charge to get rid of a large item?

One load is free each year through the bulky waste voucher, and mattresses, small residential electronic waste loads and clean concrete, asphalt and gravel are free at the Yolo County Central Landfill. Everything else is priced by the load or by the weight on the county fee schedule, and a curbside bulky pickup from Recology Davis is quoted by phone. Dropcurb prices a pickup separately and shows the total before payment.Official guidance

Can I take my own load to the Yolo County Central Landfill?

Yes. The landfill at 44090 County Road 28H in Woodland is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and every load is weighed at the scale house, where payment is by cash, check or credit card. Cover the load, because an untarped load is charged, and check the holiday closure list before a trip.Official guidance

Can I just leave a couch or mattress on the street?

No. The city says illegally dumping household trash, mattresses and furniture around cans and dumpsters is expensive to clean up, and leaving furniture, mattresses or other household items in front of a property or on the street and sidewalk is a City Code violation and a safety hazard for bicyclists and pedestrians. Use the bulky waste voucher, a paid curbside pickup, or a donation instead.Official guidance
