The city and Recology Davis issue a One-Time Bulky Waste Landfill Voucher that is valid from May 1 to October 31, 2026 and was mailed to every Davis resident at the end of April. The voucher covers one free load at the Yolo County Central Landfill, up to a full-size pickup bed, a full-size van, or a small trailer less than three feet high and less than eight feet long.

Get it ready
Separate the materials before the trip so the site can recycle what it can. The voucher accepts appliances, asphalt, bricks, concrete, bulky trash, dirt, soil, sod, electronic waste, furniture, mattresses, green waste, scrap metal, up to nine tires and wood, and it refuses business waste, commercial construction debris and pressure treated wood. Cover the load, because an untarped load is charged at the scale.
Furniture is one of the materials the voucher accepts, and the landfill fee schedule charges household furnishing such as a single sofa or chair by the piece. The city also asks residents to donate usable furniture first, and warns that leaving a couch on the street or sidewalk is a City Code violation.

Curbside bulky pickup does not include appliances. Accepted bulky items are furniture, mattresses, toilets, sinks, plumbing fixtures, scrap metal, wood scraps, textiles and empty cardboard boxes, and mattresses still have a free drop-off alternative that costs nothing.
Municipal solid waste, appliances including refrigeration units, bulky waste, furniture, mattresses for free recycling, electronic waste, construction and demolition debris, clean concrete, asphalt and gravel, green waste, tires, textiles and reusable items for the thrift store.
Every load is weighed at the scale house. An untarped load is charged extra, business waste and commercial construction debris are not accepted on a Davis household voucher, and pressure treated wood, styrofoam and low density material, and mixed construction loads that fall below the recoverable percentage are charged at higher rates.
