A mattress is named twice in the Kern County material list: furniture at the McFarland-Delano Transfer Station includes mattresses, and the county's non-chargeable residential category names mattresses alongside sofas, chairs, desks and patio furniture. That site is the Delano-area transfer station.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Non-chargeable residential waste at the McFarland-Delano Transfer Station in Delano, which accepts household waste from Kern County residents; waste from outside the county is not accepted.
When & how
Drive to 11249 Stradley Avenue during the published hours, Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., since the site is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Get it ready
Cover and secure the load, because an untarped or unsecured load is charged extra at the gate, and stop at the gatehouse for the load check before heading to the transfer face. Keep the unit dry and out of the general trash cart if a household would rather not haul it itself.
Kern County charges extra for an untarped or unsecured load, so tarp or tie down anything headed to the McFarland-Delano Transfer Station. At the site, stop at the gatehouse for the load check, take recyclables to the diversion area, take the rest to the transfer face, follow the speed limit signs and follow the directional arrows.
The Delano transfer station is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays
The McFarland-Delano Transfer Station opens Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., so nothing can be dropped on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Every county disposal site closes for New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Only Kern County waste is accepted, and some streams are refused
Waste generated outside Kern County is refused at every county disposal site, and the transfer station will not take firearms or explosives, hazardous waste, hot ashes, liquids of any kind or non-friable asbestos. Anything out of the ordinary should be cleared with Kern County Public Works before it is loaded into a vehicle.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Ask the city about a special pickup
A Delano household with a large item it would rather not haul, in a city whose Refuse Department lists special pickups among the services it provides.
Cost & conditions
The city publishes no special collection charge and no item list for one, so the Refuse Department at 661-721-3303 or the franchise hauler STRR at 661-725-0265 confirms whether the item is collected, when, and what it costs.
Arrange it
Call the city Refuse Department or STRR, describe the item and follow the collection arrangement you are given.
Special pickups are a listed city service rather than a published programme, so there is no printed item list, no published fee and no guaranteed collection day until the department confirms the arrangement.

Arrange it

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Delano.
How much does mattress removal cost in Delano?+
The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.
Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Delano?+
Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.
Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?+
The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.
Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?+
Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.
Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?+
You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.
Is a mattress free to drop off in Delano?+
Yes. The county names mattresses in the furniture category at the McFarland-Delano Transfer Station on Stradley Avenue, and its non-chargeable residential category lists mattresses with sofas, chairs, desks and patio furniture.
