Book the bulky pickup at least one day ahead of trash day
El Monte bulky waste is collected on the normal trash day, and the pickup has to be scheduled at least one day in advance, so nothing should be sitting at the curb in the hope of a collection. A single-family home has 20 free bulky items a year, and the accepted list covers appliances, carpet rolled and tied, chairs, desks, electronics, mattresses, sofas, tables, tires and bundled tree branches.
Three carts, one holiday delay, and organics by ordinance
Every single-family home has a brown trash cart, a blue recycling cart and a green cart for green waste and food waste, collected by Valley Vista Services on the regular service day. If a collection day falls on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas, collection moves to the following day for the rest of that week. Organics are mandatory under the city's ordinance 3006, so green waste and food waste do not belong in the brown cart.

No charge. 20 free bulky items a year for each single-family home, collected on the normal trash day when the pickup is scheduled at least one day in advance.

Call Valley Vista Services at 800-442-6454 or request the pickup through the hauler's bulky item page at least one day before the trash day, and put the items out that morning.
Business waste, construction debris and hazardous waste are refused, the allowance is 20 items a year, and the collection happens on the scheduled trash day rather than on demand.
