Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are named in El Monte's accepted bulky list, the hauler names televisions, computers and computer monitors, and the city's hazardous and electronic waste facility takes electronic waste during its Clean Up events.

City cost & eligibility
Electronics count against the 20 free bulky items a year when they go out on a scheduled pickup, and the city publishes no fee for the Clean Up events at its collection facility, so confirm the current terms with Environmental Services at (626) 580-2250 before relying on that route.
When & how
Book a bulky pickup with Valley Vista Services at least one day before the trash day, or take the devices to the City of El Monte Hazardous Waste & Electronic Waste Collection Facility at 3990 Arden Drive during a scheduled Clean Up event.
Get it ready
Clear personal data before handover, keep electronics out of the brown, blue and green carts, and keep business waste, explosives, ammunition and tires out of the facility load because none of those are accepted there.

Right place.

Book the bulky pickup at least one day ahead of trash day

El Monte bulky waste is collected on the normal trash day, and the pickup has to be scheduled at least one day in advance, so nothing should be sitting at the curb in the hope of a collection. A single-family home has 20 free bulky items a year, and the accepted list covers appliances, carpet rolled and tied, chairs, desks, electronics, mattresses, sofas, tables, tires and bundled tree branches.

Three carts, one holiday delay, and organics by ordinance

Every single-family home has a brown trash cart, a blue recycling cart and a green cart for green waste and food waste, collected by Valley Vista Services on the regular service day. If a collection day falls on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas, collection moves to the following day for the rest of that week. Organics are mandatory under the city's ordinance 3006, so green waste and food waste do not belong in the brown cart.

Hazardous and universal waste never go in a cart

Paint, thinners, used motor oil and filters, antifreeze, cleaning products, pool chemicals, pesticides, mercury thermometers, expired medication, syringes, batteries, light bulbs, televisions, computers and appliances are all household hazardous or universal waste, and none of them may go in a residential cart or a commercial bin, down a sink drain or into a storm drain. They go to the city's collection facility at 3990 Arden Drive on a Clean Up event date, and sharps containers come free from Valley Vista Services, up to four a year.

Arrange it

Taking it somewhere yourself?

El Monte keeps the unusual material off the curb. Households have three carts for trash, recycling and organics, and a bulky pickup covers up to 20 free items a year on the normal trash day when Valley Vista Services is called at least a day ahead; the accepted list runs from appliances and mattresses to carpet rolled and tied and bundled branches. Anything hazardous has its own drop: paint, oil and filters, antifreeze, chemicals, batteries, bulbs, medication, syringes, televisions, computers and appliances go to the city's collection facility at the Public Works Yard, 3990 Arden Drive, during the Clean Up events the city schedules, and sharps containers arrive free from the hauler. Renovation material never rides the bulky pile: the city requires bins from the franchise hauler, sizes run from 3 to 40 cubic yards, a bin in the street needs an encroachment permit, and covered projects have to divert at least 65 per cent of their debris under the city's ordinance. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in El Monte.

How much does TV removal cost in El Monte?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in El Monte?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do televisions and computers go in El Monte?

Two routes. A scheduled bulky pickup through Valley Vista Services takes electronics under the 20 free items a year, and the city's Hazardous Waste & Electronic Waste Collection Facility at the Public Works Yard, 3990 Arden Drive, takes electronic waste during its regularly scheduled Clean Up events. Business waste, explosives, ammunition and tires are refused there.Official guidance

Why does El Monte require a green cart?

The city adopted its Mandatory Organic Waste Disposal Reduction Ordinance, number 3006, in October 2021, requiring residential, commercial and multi-family premises to subscribe to the organics programme under SB 1383. Green waste and food waste go in the green cart, not the brown trash cart, and multi-family properties follow the same rule.Official guidance
