Desks and bookshelves
Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

When & how
Schedule the collection with Republic Services at (714) 847-3581, and set the furniture out for the collection day.
Get it ready
Roll and secure an area rug and keep it under 6 feet, bag any loose trash beyond the cart capacity at no more than 40 pounds per bag with the bag sealed, and keep the load inside the 10 item limit. Intact vanity cabinets, sinks, toilets, bathtubs, windows and doors are refused, and cast iron tubs are refused too.
Trash, recycling and green waste carts go to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day and are stored out of public view by 9:00 p.m. that day. Collection can happen any time between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., so an early or late truck on the street is normal.
Four free bulky collections a year, ten items each
The 10/4 programme gives a Fountain Valley household four free bulky item collections a year with up to ten large items per collection, scheduled with Republic Services at (714) 847-3581. Bagged trash beyond the cart capacity may be included at no more than 40 pounds per sealed bag, and bundles of palm fronds or branches may be no longer than 4 feet and no heavier than 40 pounds each.
