Empty the appliance, tape or strap the doors closed, and remove cords that could catch during handling. Two appliances is the limit for one collection, so a washer and dryer pair uses the whole allowance, and a third unit has to wait for the next pickup or a paid extra collection.
A refrigerator and a freezer are both on the county bulky pickup list with the same two item and 150 pound limit, and the hauler flyer's refusal list names commercial refrigerators only. A residential cooling appliance therefore travels with a bulky collection and does not need to be guessed from the general appliance rule.

Empty the unit, remove the food, and strap the doors closed so nothing can be entered or swing open. Keep the unit upright where the vehicle or set-out position allows it, and leave the refrigerant work to the hauler rather than venting anything before the collection.

The pile can go out no more than 24 hours before the appointment and has to be out by 5:45 a.m. on the collection day. Yard trimmings, plant debris and yard waste go out with the bulky collection, with trimmings no larger than 12 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length, bagged, boxed or tied in bundles. Palm fronds cannot be composted or chipped, so the city runs a separate pilot: an additional bulky pickup that does not count against the two annual collections, bundled and no larger than 6 feet by 6 feet by 6 feet and not out earlier than the night before, or a free self-haul to the transfer station under the City of Fremont Palm Frond Program with proof of residency. A load mixed with trash is charged the posted rates.
Request a debris box from Republic Services for all the material, or have the contractor haul it in its own vehicle to an approved recycling facility. Debris boxes come in sizes from 6 cubic yards to 40 cubic yards, and the hauler charges for the box and for material beyond the set-out allowance. A permitted project also has to keep the documentation, receipts and waste tracking records the city's construction recycling requirements call for.
