Appliances are named on the acceptable bulky list along with housewares, televisions and electronics, and appliances are exempt from the item weight limit as long as the doors are removed or sealed.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the one free Bulky and Reuse Pick-Up per household each year. Additional curbside pickups can be arranged for a fee, and the Davis Street facility also advertises appliance recycling.
When & how
Schedule the pickup with Alameda County Industries on (510) 483-1400 and put the appliance out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day, avoiding the January, June and October appointment blackout weeks.
Get it ready
Remove or seal the doors on an appliance before it goes out, as the district asks. Empty the unit, keep it within three feet of the curb, and keep it inside the seven cubic yard single-family limit for the whole collection.
Place items within three feet of the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day and never more than 24 hours in advance. Do not block the street or sidewalk. A single-family collection is limited to seven cubic yards and anything beyond that is charged, so keep the pile inside the limit and stack it so that removing one item cannot topple the rest.
Watch the weight limit on everything except furniture and appliances
Items must weigh less than 75 pounds and be manageable by two people, with furniture and appliances exempt. Loose material should be bagged, boxed or bundled, yard trimmings and unpainted wood go in bundles no longer than four feet with pieces under six inches across, and tires must have the rims separated. Canyonlands residents coordinate a collection location with Alameda County Industries instead of the standard curb.

A Castro Valley household with furniture, a mattress, carpet or an area rug, a television, electronics, an appliance, scrap metal, textiles, bundled wood or up to four rimless tires.
Cost & conditions
No charge. One free collection a year for single-family addresses of four units or less and for multi-family complexes of five units or more. Additional pickups and any material over the seven cubic yard single-family limit are charged.

Appointments are unavailable in the first two full weeks of January and the first full week of June and October, requests at the end of the year cannot be guaranteed, construction and hazardous material are refused, and loose items must be bagged, boxed or bundled under 75 pounds unless they are furniture or appliances.

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.
Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?+
Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.
Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

What are the cart rules in Castro Valley?+
Carts go curbside by 6 a.m. with the handles to the curb, or by 5 a.m. in the Canyonlands annexation area, and they come back in after service. Lids must close, and an overflowing cart can mean a non-collection notice or an overage fee.
