No charge for the two bulky item pickups a residential customer gets each calendar year, no charge for a mattress at the city and CR&R community clean-up, and no charge for up to five mattresses or box springs per residential customer per day at Badlands or Lamb Canyon when they are carried separately from other waste. A mattress mixed into a trash load is weighed and the whole load is charged at the routine waste rate.
When & how
Call CR&R at (800) 755-8112 to schedule a bulky pickup, take it to a community clean-up between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on a published date, or drive it to Badlands or Lamb Canyon, open 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and carry it separately from any trash load if you are self-hauling, because the free county allowance applies only when mattresses are separated. Keep it off the street and sidewalk, and unload it yourself at a clean-up event, where children and pets stay in the vehicle.
Carts out by six in the morning and back in the same day
CR&R asks that containers be at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. on collection day, side by side about one foot apart and at least three feet from any obstruction, with the handles and wheels facing the home. Containers come back in within 12 hours after service, and the city expects carts removed from the public right-of-way within 24 hours of the collection day and stored where they are not visible from the street. Items not inside a container are not collected, and no liquid or hazardous waste goes into any container.
Book the bulky pickup before anything goes to the curb
Nothing large should sit at the curb without a scheduled collection. Call CR&R at (800) 755-8112 to book one of the two free bulky item pickups each residential customer gets a year, and keep the load to loose items within three cubic yards or two individual large pieces such as a couch, a mattress or a television. A pickup beyond the two free ones is billed as an extra on-call bulky waste pickup, and automobile tires are limited to four per request, counted as a bulky item pickup.
The city and CR&R hold a free clean-up for Hemet residential customers on February 7, April 25, August 1 and November 7, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Ave, entered from westbound Latham Ave. Bring a valid identification and proof of residency, unload your own vehicle, and place items inside the containers provided while children and pets stay in the car, because the site closes promptly at noon. Sofas, chairs, refrigerators, water heaters, washers, dryers, mattresses, other household items, bundled tree limbs, green waste, metals and electronics are accepted, up to four tires without rims. Automotive parts, engines, propane tanks, cleaners, gas and oil containers, fluorescent lights, batteries, paints, lumber, fencing, construction debris and any hazardous material or liquid are refused.

No charge. Two bulky item pickups per residential customer per calendar year at no charge, each covering loose large items up to the equivalent of three cubic yards or two individual pieces. The city rate sheet lists an extra on-call bulky waste pickup at $40.88 once the two free pickups are used.

Items that fit in the carts are not bulky items, nothing may block the public right-of-way, and construction debris, commercial material, hazardous waste and liquids are not part of the service.

Self-haul in Hemet means Riverside County's Badlands Sanitary Landfill at 31125 Ironwood Avenue in Moreno Valley, or Lamb Canyon at 16411 Lamb Canyon Road in Beaumont, both open 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on the county holiday schedule. Neither site takes household hazardous waste, and an uncovered or unsecured load is surcharged. Mattresses and box springs are free at either site for up to five pieces per residential customer per day when they are carried separately from trash, up to two CRT televisions or monitors per day are free, and appliances and tires are limited to four and five pieces per day. The county charges by weight on its published fee schedule, and a Hemet customer who wants to self-haul a regular refuse load instead of using the curbside service needs approval from the City of Hemet Public Works Director under Municipal Code Chapter 62.
