Get it ready
Clear personal data before handover, keep electronics out of the trash, recycling and green carts because the city says it is illegal to put them there, and keep universal waste such as batteries separate from a green waste load.
Carts out by 6:30 a.m. and back in within 12 hours
Laguna Niguel carts go to the curb no later than 6:30 a.m. on collection day and come back within 12 hours after service, with the handles and wheels facing the home. Leave carts side by side about a foot apart and at least three feet from vehicles, fire hydrants and trees, keep the lids closed, and remember that nothing outside a cart is collected unless a bulky pickup has been arranged.
Electronic waste and hazardous waste never go in a cart
Electronic waste, meaning anything with a circuit board or a battery, may not go in the trash, recycling or green cart, and neither may household hazardous waste. Electronic waste is collected by arrangement with CR&R at (877) 728-0446, while hazardous waste goes to a certified collection centre, with the nearest named at the Prima Deshecha Landfill in San Juan Capistrano. Sharps follow state law and go to a centre in an approved container, with free mail-back containers available.

No charge. the city publishes the San Juan Capistrano collection facility as free for car batteries and directs household hazardous waste questions to Orange County Waste and Recycling, so confirm any other item at (714) 834-4000 before travelling.
Arrange it
Take the material to a certified county collection centre, with the nearest named at 32250 Avenida La Pata in San Juan Capistrano, open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., or arrange a CR&R household hazardous waste curbside pickup.
The centres are county facilities rather than a city site, the city publishes no full fee list or item list for them, and sharps have to arrive in an approved or other secure container.
