Annual residential curbside cleanup

Accepted with preparation

Madera runs one citywide curbside cleanup a year for excess trash, rubbish and bulky items that normal weekly service will not take, and single-family homes inside the city limits are the households that qualify.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The cleanup is an event rather than a per item charge, and it is open to single-family homes inside the Madera city limits. Unincorporated Madera County addresses, multi-family dwellings and commercial businesses are excluded by name.
When & how
The cleanup takes place annually in the spring and moves through two zones on published dates. The 2026 window ran from February 16 to 27 in Zone 1 and March 2 to 13 in Zone 2, the city says the detail arrives in the utility bill, and zone maps are posted at least one week before service starts in an area. Debris may go out up to three days before the scheduled cleanup date.
Get it ready
Keep the pile to 5 feet by 5 feet by 10 feet, about one truckload, and set it at least six inches away from the curb so sewer vents, water inlets, mailboxes and fire hydrants stay clear. Sort debris, appliances, mattresses, electronics, green waste and general trash into separate groups, and bag or box all loose debris. Anything on the ineligible list is left behind and has to be removed within 24 hours after the scheduled cleanup date.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses are sorted as their own group in the annual curbside cleanup and they are named in the hauler's bulky item service list, so either route takes one.

City cost & eligibility
A mattress carried out with the annual curbside cleanup costs nothing extra for a single-family home inside the city limits. Outside that window the documented route is a Mid Valley Disposal bulky item pickup, which the hauler names for mattresses and prices when a representative contacts the customer, so ask for the amount at 559-237-9425 before the job order is confirmed.
When & how
Put the mattress out with the sorted cleanup pile up to three days before the scheduled cleanup date, or order a bulky item pickup and wait for the job order to be confirmed before setting it out.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress out of the carts, keep the cleanup pile inside 5 feet by 5 feet by 10 feet, and place the pile at least six inches back from the curb so it does not block sewer vents, water inlets, mailboxes or hydrants.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Build the cleanup pile to the published limits

The annual curbside cleanup takes one pile per single-family home inside the city limits, no larger than 5 feet by 5 feet by 10 feet and roughly one truckload. Put it out up to three days before the scheduled cleanup date, at least six inches back from the curb so sewer vents, water inlets, mailboxes and fire hydrants stay clear, and bag or box anything loose.

Sort the pile so each crew can take its part

The city asks residents to separate debris, appliances, mattresses, electronics, green waste and general trash rather than mixing them into one heap. Sorting is what lets the crew and the recycling routes handle each group, and it is also why a mattress and an appliance should not end up buried under loose rubbish.

Refused items stay at your curb

Tires, batteries and items containing batteries, paint and liquids, propane tanks, needles, dirt and rock, 50-gallon drums, items over four feet long and items over 150 pounds are all refused in the cleanup. Anything refused is left at the curb and has to be removed by the resident within 24 hours after the scheduled cleanup date, so keep those out of the pile in the first place.

Order a bulky item pickup from the hauler

Arrange it

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Madera has no city landfill, so a self hauled load goes to the Fairmead Landfill, also called the Mammoth Recycling Facility and Transfer Station, at 21739 Road 19 in Chowchilla. It is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and it is closed Sundays and major holidays. The site is owned by Madera County and operated under contract with Red Rock Environmental Group, and it is open to the public for self haulers. Televisions and computer monitors are accepted free of charge, and electronic waste generally can be dropped there during open hours. The same site runs the county household hazardous waste window on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Madera County residents, with businesses served by appointment. Paint has its own retail route, because vendors take up to five gallons of latex and oil-based paint, stains and varnish, and the city lists Sherwin-Williams at 1809 Howard Rd. The city's recycling guide also points at free waste tire recycling events, a line for tires left in the public right of way, and free used oil and filter bags available at 1030 S. Gateway Drive while supplies last. A per load gate rate is not published on the city or county pages read here, so confirm the charge at 559-665-1310 before loading. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Madera.

How much does mattress removal cost in Madera?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Madera?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

When is the Madera curbside cleanup?

It is an annual spring event that moves through two zones. The 2026 window ran from February 16 to 27 in Zone 1 and March 2 to 13 in Zone 2. The city says a flyer with the scheduled day for each area arrives in the utility bill, and zone maps go up at least one week before service starts in an area.Official guidance

Who can use the citywide curbside cleanup?

Single-family homes inside the Madera city limits. The city excludes unincorporated areas of Madera County, multi-family dwellings and commercial businesses, so an apartment resident has to ask the property manager or order a pickup from the hauler instead.Official guidance

How big can the cleanup pile be?

No larger than 5 feet by 5 feet by 10 feet, roughly one truckload, and it goes at least six inches away from the curb so it does not block sewer vents, water inlets, mailboxes or fire hydrants. Loose debris has to be bagged or boxed, and the city asks residents to separate debris, appliances, mattresses, electronics, green waste and general trash.Official guidance

What will the cleanup leave behind?

Lawnmowers and two-stroke motors, auto parts, construction and demolition material, light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, flammable or hazardous material, pool chemicals, pesticides, propane tanks and compressed cylinders, needles and medical waste, paint and paint products, liquids, all batteries and anything containing a battery, dirt, rock, sod and asphalt, 50-gallon drums, tires, and anything over four feet long or 150 pounds. The city leaves ineligible items at the curb and the resident has to remove them within 24 hours after the scheduled cleanup date.Official guidance

Where does a mattress go in the Madera cleanup?

The city asks residents to sort mattresses into their own group alongside debris, appliances, electronics, green waste and general trash, and the crew collects them during the annual spring cleanup for single-family homes inside the city limits.Official guidance

What if I miss the cleanup window with a mattress?

Order a bulky item pickup from Mid Valley Disposal, which lists mattresses among the items it collects as a temporary service and quotes the pickup when a representative contacts you at 559-237-9425. The county landfill publishes its address and hours but no accepted mattress list and no gate rate, so do not assume that route without confirming it at 559-665-1310 first.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Madera?

The City of Madera contracts residential and commercial trash, recycling and green waste service to Mid Valley Disposal, whose customer line is 559-237-9425 and whose toll free number is 1-800-706-5779. Residential service changes are handled by the City at 559-661-5406, option 4, and billing questions go to City Utility Billing at 559-661-5459.Official guidance

How is the Madera trash rate set?

The City Council adopts the solid waste and street sweeping rates. Resolution 22-103 set a five year schedule effective August 1, 2022, and its attachment lists the three standard residential containers at $49.31 a month as a maximum in the fiscal year 2026/27 column, noting that the later columns are maximum rates that may be adjusted by future Council action. City Utility Billing at 559-661-5459 confirms the amount billed on the account.Official guidance

Do apartments and businesses qualify for the curbside cleanup?

No. The citywide curbside cleanup is limited to single-family homes inside the Madera city limits and it excludes unincorporated areas of Madera County, multi-family dwellings and commercial businesses. Mid Valley Disposal still handles residential and commercial collection, so an apartment resident can ask the property manager or order a bulky item pickup from the hauler.Official guidance

Where do tires go in Madera?

Tires are refused in the curbside cleanup and the city's guide puts them in the not allowed in any cart group. The guide lists free waste tire recycling events on selected dates and a tire cleanup line for tires left in the public right of way, and Mid Valley Disposal lists tires among the items it collects through a bulky item pickup, which is quoted on contact.Official guidance

Where does household hazardous waste go in Madera?

The Fairmead Landfill site hosts the county household hazardous waste facility, open to Madera County residents on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with businesses served by appointment. Accepted material includes old paint, televisions and computer monitors, batteries, fluorescent lights, thermometers and thermostats, waste oil and gasoline, and pesticides. Paint can also go to a participating vendor, and the city lists Sherwin-Williams at 1809 Howard Rd.Official guidance

How do I recycle used motor oil?

The city's recycling guide says used oil and filter bags can be picked up at the Solid Waste Division at 1030 S. Gateway Drive in Madera while supplies last, and the division line is 559-661-5406. The city also runs free waste tire recycling events on selected dates, and household batteries belong with household hazardous waste rather than in any cart.Official guidance
