Outside those two windows, the mattress recycling program lists no-cost drop-off sites in Fresno County, and a retailer that hauls an old mattress away has up to 30 days to collect it.

Community Clean-Up dates are published on the City's interactive map each cycle, with debris at the curb by 6 a.m. Mattress drop-off sites in Fresno County keep their own hours and per-visit limits, so call before loading a trailer.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and out of the greenwaste and metal piles, and send a mattress out with its box spring so the pair leaves in one visit. Ask a retailer about its collection window before delivery day, because the mattress program allows up to 30 days for the pick-up and a retailer may refuse a unit that poses a health or safety risk.
Put clean-up debris out by 6 a.m. on your date and not before
Each neighborhood has its own pick-up day in the spring cycle and the fall cycle, and everything has to be at the curb by 6 a.m. on that day. Nothing may go out more than two weeks ahead of the date, and the City charges an extra collection charge when a pile is set out early, arrives late, is hauled in from another address or is not separated into the three piles.
Separate the pile into greenwaste, metal and other debris
The City recycles as much of the clean-up material as it can, so greenwaste, metal and other debris are kept in three separate piles in front of the property they came from. Different trucks collect each pile at different times of the day, some material may be collected earlier than the published date, and the trucks return on the scheduled day for the rest.
A clean-up pile sits at the curb directly in front of the property it came from, and there is no alley pick-up. The pile has to stay out of gutters, traffic lanes and bicycle lanes and at least 6 feet away from any parked vehicle, and vehicles have to be off the street on the collection day until the material is picked up.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Single-family residences that are City of Clovis refuse customers, one date per cycle in the spring and fall, up to two loads or about 6 cubic yards each cycle.
Arrange it
Look up the address on the City's interactive Community Clean-Up map, then put the separated piles at the curb in front of the property by 6 a.m. on the published date.
Furniture, mattresses, appliances, carpeting, bagged debris, palm fronds and open dry paint cans are taken in the other debris and metals piles. Televisions, construction debris of any kind, dirt, concrete, asphalt, roofing material, tires, batteries and railroad or treated lumber are refused and stay the household's responsibility, and no debris may be hauled in from another location.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Free to residents at participating mattress program sites, with per-visit limits such as 5 units a day at the Rice Road station and up to 10 units at the Cedar Avenue station. Charges apply to commercial drop-offs at some locations.
Arrange it
Load the mattress and box spring and take them to a listed no-cost site, such as the Rice Road Recycling and Transfer Station at 10463 N. Rice Road or the Cedar Avenue Recycling and Transfer Station at 3457 South Cedar Avenue in Fresno.
Drop-off limits, appointment rules and hours are set by each site, and some close over lunch, so call the location first. A retail collection of an old mattress can take up to 30 days and may be refused when the unit poses a health or safety risk.

American Avenue Disposal Site

General refuse and household waste, clean green material, hard-to-handle material, construction and demolition debris inside the county load conditions, metals, stoves, washers and dryers, water heaters and used tires.
Construction and demolition debris is accepted only when the load stays under 3 cubic yards or the demolition material is less than 20 percent of a mixed load, and county staff make the final call at the scale. A high-visibility safety vest is required on site, household hazardous waste is routed to the county hazardous waste facility, and an extra flat amount is charged on an uncovered load.
Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., closed Sunday plus Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Hard-to-handle material is accepted until 2 p.m.
From $9.45 per load of up to 640 pounds, the minimum charge in the Fresno County tipping fee schedule effective July 1, 2026, before general refuse moves to the per-ton rate. Any resident or hauler delivering to the county site, with the posted fee taken at the scale.

Mattresses and box springs, small appliances under 125 pounds that hold no refrigerant, stoves, washers and dryers, water heaters, cell phones, computer equipment, e-waste, construction and demolition debris, asphalt and concrete, and used tires.
Small appliances may not contain refrigerant and have to stay under 125 pounds, charges apply to commercial mattress drop-offs after the tenth unit, and construction and demolition material still has to meet the county's load conditions.
Set by the operator; the county lists the site as a privately operated transfer station and the mattress program publishes it for resident drop-off, so confirm the current hours at (559) 233-1158 before loading.
No charge. Free for household mattress drop-off up to 10 units and for the household quantities in the county directory; the site sets any charge for larger or commercial loads.
