Finish clearing the space
The last few things still deserve a pickup.
You have decided what is going. Now give those bags and boxes a pickup day, with a price you can see before anyone arrives.
The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
The clear-out can be finished.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Two appointment based cleanups a year take a pile up to four by four by eight feet plus up to three bulky goods such as furniture or appliances.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Two cleanups a calendar year at no additional charge for houses of one to eight units, condominiums, townhouses and mobile homes, including the bulky goods truck. Apartments of nine or more units are excluded but a manager may arrange a complex wide special collection for a fee, and extra pickups are available for a fee.
When & how
Book the appointment with Recology at 650-967-3034 before anything is set out, and have everything at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Appointments are not transferable and expire in mid-December, and no appointments run between December 26 and the third Friday in January, when a voucher is the alternative.
Get it ready
Keep the pile inside four feet high by four feet wide by eight feet long, with bags, boxes and bundles under 50 pounds each and carpet tied into bundles no longer than four feet and six inches in diameter. Group items by stream, because trash, recycling, compost and bulky goods are collected by different trucks, and set appliances and furniture aside for the bulky goods truck.
A mattress counts as a bulky good on a cleanup appointment, and the hauler also takes mattresses and box springs free at the Mountain View Recycling Center by appointment.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Mattresses go out as one of the three bulky goods on a free cleanup appointment, and mattresses and box springs are accepted free at the Mountain View Recycling Center for Mountain View residents by appointment.
When & how
Either book a cleanup appointment with Recology at 650-967-3034 and put the mattress out by 7 a.m. on the collection day, or call to arrange a Recycling Center drop-off appointment.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress with the bulky goods rather than inside the pile or a cart, and keep it clear of the sidewalk and the roadway.
Refrigerators, air conditioners, washers, dryers and water heaters are bulky goods, and household appliances also drop free at the Recycling Center.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Appliances ride the free cleanup appointment as bulky goods, and household appliances are accepted free at the Mountain View Recycling Center for residents by appointment. Items weighing more than 200 pounds may require an extra fee.
When & how
Book the appointment with Recology at 650-967-3034, or arrange a Recycling Center drop-off appointment for a household appliance.
Get it ready
Remove or securely tape the doors closed on a refrigerator or freezer before it goes out, to stop children or animals becoming trapped inside. Keep the appliance with the bulky goods rather than in a cart, and leave appliances containing freon out of the Bin for a Day rental.
Computers and televisions are bulky goods, electronics drop free at the Recycling Center, and small electronics and batteries have curbside placement rules of their own.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Electronics ride the free cleanup appointment as bulky goods, drop free at the Mountain View Recycling Center by appointment for residents, and small items such as cell phones, batteries and compact fluorescent bulbs go out at no extra charge on the cart routes. Hazardous waste drop-off is arranged by appointment through the county program.
When & how
Book the cleanup appointment with Recology at 650-967-3034, drop electronics at the Recycling Center by appointment, or set the small items out on the regular collection day as described below.
Get it ready
Place a cell phone in a clear sealed bag on top of the recycling cart, batteries in a sealed bag on top of the split cart with the terminals taped, compact fluorescent bulbs in a clear sealed bag next to the recycling cart with fluorescent tubes excluded, and wipe personal data from any computer or drive before it leaves the property.
The City accepts light construction material on a cleanup appointment when it is bagged, boxed or bundled under the weight limit, while the hauler excludes construction and demolition, and larger loads go to a transfer station.
City cost & eligibility
No single published rate covers a construction load. The City's chart lists light construction material such as doors, windows, plastic sheds, lumber, sinks, toilets, drywall, electrical and plumbing as no fee items when it is bagged, boxed or bundled under the weight limit, and asks residents to call Recology first to confirm it can be collected. The hauler's page lists construction and demolition as not accepted, and material too large, heavy or dangerous for pickup goes to the SMaRT Station, a roll off box, or through Solid Waste staff at 650-903-6311. Confirm the route and any charge before loading.
When & how
Call Recology at 650-967-3034 before setting out any construction material, because the two programs treat it differently, and arrange a transfer station trip or a roll off box for anything heavier or larger than a bag or bundle.
Get it ready
Bag, box or bundle light material under 50 pounds per item, keep concrete, soil, rock and stumps out of the pile entirely, and keep treated wood out of the load because the SMaRT Station refuses it. The Bin for a Day rental also refuses large or heavy construction and demolition debris.
Exercise equipment is not named among the bulky goods, so the machine has to be confirmed with the hauler before it goes out.
City cost & eligibility
The bulky goods list names couches, chairs, mattresses, appliances, computers and televisions rather than exercise equipment, the City chart does not name a treadmill or an elliptical, and the hauler notes that an item over 200 pounds may require an extra fee. Call Recology at 650-967-3034 with the machine type and weight to confirm it and any charge.
When & how
Confirm the machine before you book, then set it out with the bulky goods if the hauler approves it and have it at the curb by 7 a.m. on the appointment day.
Get it ready
Take the machine down as far as it will come apart, keep the loose weights and parts with it, and weigh or estimate the heaviest piece so the hauler can apply the 200 pound rule.
An On Call Plus cleanup is an appointment booked with Recology at 650-967-3034, and the City asks that the appointment be made before any items are set out. The pile may be no larger than four feet high, four feet wide and eight feet long plus up to three bulky goods, with bags, boxes and bundles under 50 pounds, and everything has to be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the appointment day.
Household batteries go in a sealed bag on top of the split cart with the terminals taped, cell phones go in a clear sealed bag on top of the recycling cart, compact fluorescent bulbs go in a clear sealed bag next to the recycling cart with fluorescent tubes excluded, and used motor oil and filters go in hauler provided containers on top of the curb near the split cart.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Additional cleanup pickup or full service cleanup
Households that have used the two free cleanups or that want the hauler to do the lifting.
Cost & conditions
The City rate page lists bulky service as varying and the hauler only states that additional pickups are available for a fee, so no amount is published. The City also lists a RecycleMyJunk service that is quoted per job. Call Recology at 650-967-3034 for the current price.
Arrange it
Call the hauler to book the extra pickup or to request a RecycleMyJunk estimate, and confirm the amount before the work is scheduled.
The same item limits and exclusions apply to a paid pickup as to a free cleanup, and an item over 200 pounds or longer than five feet can still be refused or charged extra.

Arrange it
Call Recology at 650-967-3034 to order the bin, and get an encroachment permit from the City if it has to sit on the street rather than the driveway.

Free SMaRT Station dump voucher
Households that would rather haul it themselves, including during the winter pause on cleanup appointments.
Cost & conditions
No charge. One free vehicle entrance at the SMaRT Station per voucher, covering the same items as a cleanup appointment including bulky goods and electronic waste. An uncovered load carries a published fee.
Arrange it
Ask Recology for the voucher at least a week ahead or collect it at the Mountain View Recycling Center at 935 Terra Bella Avenue, then show proof of residency at the scale house, weigh in and weigh out, and cover the load.
Vouchers are not transferable, expire December 31 with a one week grace period in January, and the load still has to be material the SMaRT Station accepts.
Household discards, household appliances, plumbing fixtures and furniture, green waste, construction and demolition debris, concrete, dirt and sod, clean wood debris, asphalt, brick and pavers, and tires, with recycling, paint, and compost or mulch accepted at no charge for eligible residents.
Mountain View residents need a driver's license proving residency or a business license, hazardous waste, liquids and treated wood are refused, and the disposal rate depends on the material type and volume, so confirm the rate before hauling. An uncovered load carries a published fee and a tarp is issued.
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Phone 408-752-8530.
Disposal is charged by material type per cubic yard or per large item on a separate rate document that was not retained. An uncovered load is charged a published fee under the Sunnyvale municipal code, and recycling, paint drop-off and compost or mulch pickup are free for eligible residents. Confirm the current disposal rate at 408-752-8530.
Any condition furniture, appliances, carpet, wood, construction debris, sheetrock, garbage and yard trimmings.
Fees apply, no appointment is needed, the site is open to the public, and payment is by credit or debit card only.

The hauler states that fees apply without publishing an amount for this transfer station. Confirm the current rate with Recology customer service before loading.
