The free route for large items is the quarterly bulky pickup, limited to three items that go at the curb or the end of the driveway by 6 a.m. on the appointed day, and the acceptable list covers furniture, scrap metal, stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners, microwave ovens, water heaters and one television or computer monitor. Tires, dirt, concrete, asphalt and hazardous chemicals are refused, and paint may not go curbside or into a bin at all: hazardous products such as paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, batteries, used oil, auto fluids and propane go free to the South Bay Regional drop-off center at 1800 Maxwell Road in Chula Vista, open Wednesdays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., within 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle and with residency documentation.
