Send electronics and hazardous material to their own sites
Electronics are refused on the Petaluma bulky pickup and drop free at County Refuse Disposal Sites or county e-waste events, with personal data wiped first. Batteries can go in a sealed bag on top of the recycling cart on the service day, motor oil and filters go out in a hauler supplied kit next to the recycling cart, and paints, chemicals and propane go to the household hazardous waste facility at the Central Disposal Site.

Only items on the county accepted list are taken, and large appliances, loose batteries, lamps and bulbs, fans, gas cylinders, small kitchen appliances, vacuum cleaners and exercise or sporting equipment are on the unacceptable list.
Petaluma residents have three self haul routes on Mecham Road and around the county. The Central Landfill at 500 Mecham Road takes disposal loads Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a Reuse and Recycling Center for scrap metal, cardboard, glass, metal and plastic containers and newspaper, a Recycletown reuse area for donated goods next to the recycling drop-off zone, and free drop-off for accepted electronics at county refuse disposal sites. The household hazardous waste facility in Building 5 at the same address takes paint, chemicals, cleaners, medications, batteries and small propane cylinders free for county residents on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a per vehicle limit of 15 gallons of liquid or 125 pounds of solid material. County transfer stations in Annapolis, Guerneville, Healdsburg and Sonoma offer the same disposal access closer to those communities. Do you erase data from old computers?+
Data erasure and certified data destruction are not included in Dropcurb removal. Back up the information you need, then follow the manufacturer’s sign-out and reset instructions before pickup. If a device cannot be erased or contains sensitive business information, arrange suitable data handling before giving it away. Yes. Box of electronics is an existing option for small devices, cables and chargers together in one box. A monitor, desktop computer and printer each have their own item option. Send a photo before booking for a large or heavy box, unusual contents or separate batteries so we can confirm the fit.
