A bulky pickup is booked, three cubic yards at a time
A Santa Rosa household gets two free bulky pickups a year of up to three cubic yards each, which is 600 gallons or about twelve 50-gallon bags, and the service account has to be in the resident's name. Call Recology at (800) 243-0291 to book it, and schedule a multi-family pickup through the property manager.
Paint, solvents, cleaners, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, bulbs, pesticides and pool chemicals cannot go in any cart or on a bulky pile. The county household hazardous waste facility at the Central Disposal Site, 500 Mecham Rd in Petaluma, is free for Sonoma County residents with identification, needs no appointment, and opens Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A vehicle may carry 15 gallons of liquid, with no container over five gallons, or 125 pounds of solid material.

No charge. Two free pickups a year for residential customers, up to three cubic yards of large item material in each, with the service account in the resident's name. Multi-family residents are eligible when the property manager schedules the pickup.

Cost & conditions
$144.4 for the published rate for an additional large item collection beyond the two included pickups a year, with material beyond three cubic yards in one collection priced separately per cubic yard. Santa Rosa residential accounts that have exhausted the two free bulky pickups for the year, or that set out more than three cubic yards in a single collection.

Household hazardous waste from Sonoma County residents, free of charge, including cleaning, garden, automotive and painting products, batteries, bulbs and other household chemicals. A reuse locker offers new and nearly new products, including remixed latex paint, to the public at no cost.
Sonoma County residents only, who must bring identification to prove residency, and no appointment is required. A vehicle may carry no more than 15 gallons of liquid with no container over five gallons, or 125 pounds of solid material, measured by container size rather than contents. Explosives and ammunition, radioactive material, biological or medical waste other than syringes, controlled substances, compressed gas cylinders other than 20-pound barbecue and 1-pound propane cylinders, and pressure-treated wood are refused, and electronics are not accepted here because they go to the transfer station e-waste areas.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., closed New Year's Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, and closed for the winter break from December 20, 2026 to January 4, 2027.

What happens to a holiday tree?+
Trees are collected at the curb on the service day between December 30 and January 10.
