A couch goes out on a neighborhood clean-up day, which every single-family address gets three times a year. A set out takes up to 3 cubic yards of material plus two large bulky items such as appliances, mattresses and furniture.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Three neighborhood clean-up days a year are included for every single-family residential customer at no additional charge, and clean reusable items set apart are diverted to a sorting or donation facility. Material beyond 3 cubic yards is charged at $81.98 per cubic yard, and an extra clean-up outside the scheduled days is $307.57.
When & how
Put the furniture out on the clean-up date shown for the address on the hauler's schedule, no more than 24 hours in advance and within 3 feet of the curb by 5:30 a.m. Two different vehicles collect what is set out.
Get it ready
Keep the pile inside 3 cubic yards and to no more than two large bulky items, with no single item over 200 pounds. Separate clean, undamaged reusable pieces and label them REUSE so they go to the donation stream rather than the landfill. Dirt, rock and construction or demolition debris including pallets are refused in this program.
The bulky program runs on scheduled clean-up days, not on request
San Ramon does not book bulky pickups on demand. Every single-family address gets three neighborhood clean-up days a year, listed by address on the hauler's schedule, and each set out takes up to 3 cubic yards of material plus two large bulky items such as appliances, mattresses and furniture, with four car or light truck tires allowed if the rims are separated. Items go within 3 feet of the curb by 5:30 a.m. on the scheduled day and no more than 24 hours in advance, and two different vehicles collect what is put out. Volume beyond the limit and an extra clean-up outside the scheduled days are both charged separately.
