  1. Check what your delivery includes.

If a new mattress is arriving, check whether your retailer is taking the old one. If you need Dropcurb, choose a day when you can have it outside. A delivery window and a pickup day are different arrangements.

  2. Arrange the trip outside.

Plan for doorways, elevators and interior stairs before pickup day. You arrange any indoor carrying. Use a permitted outdoor location and keep entrances and the walking path open.

  3. Make the right mattress easy to find.

Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. Add a location photo and clear access notes so your hauler can identify exactly what is going.

Special rules apply

No Sunnyvale page read in this run names a mattress, so bedding has to be confirmed against the on-call bulky collection before it is set out.

City cost & eligibility
The on-call curbside collection is published as furniture, electronics and other bulky items with no item list, and no mattress rule or rate appears, so confirm the item with the city when the collection is requested.
When & how
Ask about the mattress when requesting the on-call collection through the How to Get Rid of Anything tool, and use one of the two free collections a year if it is accepted.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress out of every cart and dry until the collection day. Self-hauling is the fallback only if the SMaRT Station confirms it takes the piece, because mattresses are not on the station's partial accepted list.
Extra garbage page with the twice yearly on-call curbside collection for furniture, electronics and other bulky items, the spring and fall extra dumping weekends and the bag tag price, size and weight rulesSMaRT Station page with the Carl Road address, the seven day hours, the service eligibility table, the residency and covered load requirements, the accepted material list and the refusals

Right item.
Right place.

Bulky items are requested, not left out

Sunnyvale takes furniture, electronics and other bulky items on an on-call curbside collection, and a household may schedule two of them a year at no additional charge. The request runs through the How to Get Rid of Anything tool, where you select Bulky Item Collection, and the same tool shows the collection schedule, holiday notices and recycling events.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Sunnyvale has one curbside route and one gate. Furniture, electronics and other bulky items come off the curb on an on-call collection that single-family and multi-family residents can schedule twice a year at no additional charge through the How to Get Rid of Anything tool, and extra bagged garbage goes out with a six dollar tag on a bag no larger than 35 gallons and under 30 pounds. Everything self-hauled goes to the SMaRT Station at 301 Carl Road, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week and closed on the three collection holidays, where household discards, appliances, furniture, green waste, construction and demolition debris, concrete, dirt, clean wood, asphalt, brick, pavers and tires are accepted with proof of residency and a covered load. Hazardous waste, liquids and treated wood are refused there and instead go to Santa Clara County's weekly hazardous waste drop-off events on Fridays and Saturdays, free to residents by appointment on 408-299-7300. Two extra dumping weekends a year let any Sunnyvale resident bring non-hazardous loads to the SMaRT Station free. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Sunnyvale.

How much does mattress removal cost in Sunnyvale?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Sunnyvale?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

Will Sunnyvale take a mattress on the on-call collection?

Sunnyvale publishes the on-call bulky collection as furniture, electronics and other bulky items and does not name a mattress, so confirm the item when you request the collection through the How to Get Rid of Anything tool. A household may schedule two of those collections a year at no additional charge, and the SMaRT Station partial accepted list does not name mattresses.Official guidance

Who collects trash and bulky items in Sunnyvale?

The city provides garbage and recycling to every residence and business in Sunnyvale at least once a week, franchises Specialty Solid Waste & Recycling, and operates the SMaRT Station on Carl Road. Bulky items are requested through the How to Get Rid of Anything tool by selecting Bulky Item Collection rather than handled by a hauler phone booking.Official guidance
