When & how
Call Burrtec at 909-949-0500 or book online one week ahead, then put the mattress out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress out of the barrels, count it as one of the five items in the collection, and keep it clear of the street and alley so the automated collection is not blocked.
Barrels go out the night before or no later than 6 a.m. on the collection day, either in the street with the wheels against the curb or, on alley service, in the alley away from any structures, and they come back out of sight by the night they are emptied.

Bulky pickups are free for residential barrel customers up to four times in a rolling calendar year, limited to five items per collection, and must be arranged at least one week before the scheduled collection day. Furniture, mattresses, appliances and electronic waste are the named items. Multi-family customers with dumpster service arrange their building's pickups through property management.

Upland's collection is provided by Burrtec Waste Industries, with barrels out by 6 a.m. and back out of sight the same night. Two free routes carry a clean-out. The bulky pickup takes furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronic waste and other items too large for the barrel, up to four collections in a rolling calendar year with five items each and a booking at least a week ahead on 909-949-0500. The city's own household hazardous waste facility at Public Works, 1370 N. Benson Ave., is open every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., free for San Bernardino County residents except Fontana, with a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip and no business waste, and it refuses refrigerators and air conditioning units so those stay on the bulky route. Construction and demolition material is not part of the bulky list and moves through the hauler's temporary demonstration box or roll-off service, which is quoted rather than published.
