Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulky items and household clutter

Special rules apply

Applewood has no municipal bulky program. Households either hire a private hauler for a bulky item or load a vehicle and take the material to the Foothills Landfill, which charges by the vehicle or by the ton.

City cost & eligibility
The public route is the landfill and the private route is a hauler, so the cost depends on the choice: a car load is $44 with a $68 minimum including fees, a passenger van or SUV is $60, a van or pick-up filled above the cab starts at $105, and demolition or loose waste on a commercial vehicle is $55 per ton with a three ton minimum. The mattress, appliance, shingle and other per item fees are added to the load.
When & how
Either book the bulky item with a private hauler serving Applewood or deliver the load to the Foothills Landfill at 8900 Highway 93 in Golden, open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Get it ready
Cover and secure the load before arrival, because an uncovered load is charged twice the load price, and wear a safety vest and hat when unloading by hand. Hazardous waste, paint, liquids, chemicals, batteries, tires and electronic waste are refused, so those items go to the Rooney Road Recycling Center instead.

Applewood households choose their own hauler

Applewood is an unincorporated Jefferson County community, so there is no city collection department and no municipal bulky pickup. Households arrange curbside service with a private hauler, which is what the community association's waste page describes while it works on a consolidated program for the neighbourhood. Everything a hauler will not take has a county route instead: household hazardous waste and electronics to the Rooney Road Recycling Center by appointment, and household loads, renovation debris, mattresses and appliances to the Foothills Landfill in Golden.

A landfill load has to be covered and unloaded safely

Every load must be covered before arrival, because an uncovered load is charged twice the price of the load, and anyone who leaves the vehicle to unload has to wear a safety vest and hat, which can be bought at the scale house. Minors are not allowed out of vehicles and smoking is not allowed in the disposal areas. Hand unloading stops 30 minutes before the site closes, at 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Hazardous material and electronics go to Rooney Road

The landfill refuses liquids, paint, tires, chemicals, batteries, friable asbestos and electronic waste, so those items go to the Rooney Road Recycling Center at 151 South Rooney Road in Golden, which takes paint, cleaners, pesticides, motor oil, antifreeze, electronics and batteries from Jefferson County residents. It runs by appointment on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents pay a co-pay for up to 75 pounds of hazardous material with a per pound rate above that, electronics are priced by the pound with a per unit maximum for televisions, and paint, motor oil and automotive batteries are accepted free.

Take a household load to the Foothills Landfill

An Applewood household with furniture, a mattress, an appliance, clean-up debris or renovation material that no curbside program will take.

Cost & conditions
From $44 for for a car load, with a $68 minimum including fees, $60 for a passenger van, SUV or station wagon, $105 and up for a van or pick-up filled above the cab, $55 per ton with a three ton minimum for commercial vehicles and $38.50 per yard for trailers and over-length pick-ups, plus per item fees, a fuel recovery fee of 8 to 15 percent of the load, a $19.71 environmental recovery fee and a solid waste user fee. Arrange curbside service or a bulky pickup with a private hauler

An Applewood household that wants weekly carts or wants a bulky item collected at the curb instead of hauling it.

Cost & conditions
There is no municipal contract in Applewood, so each hauler sets its own price for carts and for a bulky item, and the community association's page describes residents choosing among the haulers serving the area. Confirm the rate, the cart sizes and the bulky item terms with the company before signing up.
Arrange it
Compare the haulers serving the area, or ask a hauler listed by the community association whether it collects bulky items at the curb, then set the items out on the agreed day.

Bulky item terms differ between haulers, and anything hazardous, electronic or banned from a landfill still has to go to the county center regardless of which hauler collects the carts.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling in Applewood means loading a vehicle and driving to one of two county facilities in Golden. The Foothills Landfill at 8900 Highway 93 takes household loads, clean-up debris, renovation material, mattresses, box springs and appliances: a car load is charged a flat rate with a minimum including fees, a passenger van, SUV or station wagon costs more, a van or pick-up filled above the cab costs more again, trailers and longer pick-ups are charged by the yard, commercial vehicles by the ton, and a mattress or appliance carries its own fee on top of the load. Every load has to be covered before arrival because an uncovered load is charged twice, and anyone unloading by hand needs a safety vest and hat. What the landfill will not take is the reason for the second trip: liquids, paint, tires, chemicals, batteries, electronic waste, friable asbestos and hazardous material are refused, and those items go to the Rooney Road Recycling Center at 151 South Rooney Road, which takes paint, cleaners, pesticides, motor oil, antifreeze, electronics and batteries from Jefferson County residents by appointment on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There the resident pays a co-pay for up to 75 pounds of hazardous material with a per pound rate above that, electronics are priced by the pound with a per unit maximum for televisions, and paint, motor oil and automotive batteries are free. Foothills Landfill

8900 Highway 93, Golden, CO 80403

Municipal solid waste, commercial waste and non-hazardous industrial waste including non-friable asbestos, delivered by households and businesses across the Denver metro. Household clean-up and renovation loads arrive in cars, vans, pick-ups and trailers, and the site accepts mattresses and box springs and appliances with and without refrigerant for the published per item fees.

Liquids of any type are refused unless the load arrives with the landfill's own paperwork, and paint, tires, used oil, chemicals, batteries, electronic waste, friable asbestos, hazardous or combustible material, ammunition, fireworks and medical waste are refused as well. Fluorescent bulbs need green tips and propane tanks need the valve removed 72 hours ahead. Anyone unloading by hand must wear a safety vest and hat, minors may not leave vehicles, and every load has to be covered or it is charged twice.

Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., closed Sunday and major holidays, with hand unloading ending at 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

From $44 for for a car load with a $68 minimum including fees, with $60 for a passenger van, SUV or station wagon, $105 for a commercial van or pick-up filled to the top of the cab, $120 for a pick-up filled above the cab under six feet, $38.50 per yard for trailers and longer pick-ups, $55 per ton for compacted, demolition and loose waste on commercial vehicles, $40 per yard for shingles, $55 per mattress, and $55 or $77 per appliance depending on refrigerant, plus a fuel recovery fee of 8 to 15 percent, a $19.71 environmental recovery fee and a solid waste user fee. Household and commercial loads under the 2026 gate pricing sheet for the Tower and Foothills landfills; the scale house on (720) 590-4040 confirms the rate for an unusual load.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Applewood.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Applewood?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

How do bulky items leave an Applewood household?

There is no city bulky collection in Applewood, because the community is unincorporated and households choose their own hauler. The public option is a load taken to the Foothills Landfill in Golden, which charges a flat rate for a car or van, more for a pick-up filled above the cab, and per ton for commercial vehicles, with per item fees for mattresses and appliances. Hazardous waste and electronics go instead to the Rooney Road Recycling Center by appointment.Official guidance

Who collects trash and bulky items in Applewood?

No city department does. Applewood is an unincorporated Jefferson County community, and households arrange curbside collection with a private hauler, which is what the Applewood community association's waste page describes as it works toward a consolidated program. The county provides the public disposal routes instead: the Foothills Landfill in Golden for household, bulky and construction loads, and the Rooney Road Recycling Center for household hazardous waste and electronics.Official guidance

What does a trip to the Foothills Landfill cost?

The 2026 gate sheet charges a car load a flat rate with a minimum that includes fees, a passenger van, SUV or station wagon more, a commercial van or pick-up filled to the top of the cab more again, and pick-ups filled above the cab or trailers by the yard with a five yard minimum. Commercial vehicles carrying demolition or loose waste are charged by the ton with a three ton minimum, shingles are priced by the yard, and a mattress or appliance carries its own fee on top of the load. Fees for fuel recovery, the environment and the solid waste user charge are added, and an uncovered load is charged twice the load price.Official guidance

What will the landfill not take?

Liquids of any type unless the load carries the landfill's own paperwork, paint, tires, used oil, chemicals, batteries, electronic waste, friable asbestos, hazardous or combustible material, ammunition or fireworks, and medical waste without that paperwork. Fluorescent bulbs are accepted only with green tips, and a propane tank needs its valve removed 72 hours before disposal. The county's hazardous waste center in Golden takes the paint, cleaners, automotive fluids, batteries and electronics instead.Official guidance
