Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bagged household waste, garage cleanout material and bulky junk go to the Front Range Landfill by weight, with a published minimum on a light load, and a whole car load or pickup load each carry their own flat fee. Nothing in the load can be loose, because an uncovered load is charged double and the scale can inspect any vehicle.
City cost & eligibility
From $98 per ton of household and municipal solid waste at the Front Range Landfill, with the published minimum charged on a small load. Any household or hauler delivering household waste to the Front Range Landfill in Erie, on the fee schedule effective December 1, 2024.
When & how
The landfill accepts loads Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Sunday and closed or shortened on major holidays. A subscription route is scheduled with whichever private hauler serves the address.
Get it ready
Cover and secure the load, keep liquids, batteries, propane cylinders and hot ashes out of it, and pay at the scale by credit or debit card, because the landfill takes American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.
Tarp and secure any load before driving it to the landfill
The Front Range Landfill requires every load to be covered or tarped so that nothing can fly out or become airborne, and state rules mean an uncovered or unsecured load is charged double at the scale. All vehicles weigh in and weigh out, and anyone who steps out of the vehicle has to wear a safety vest, which can be bought at the site.
Curbside collection in Firestone is a private subscription, not a town route
The Town of Firestone does not run a municipal collection route, so a household either subscribes with one of the haulers in the Town's disposal guide or takes the load to the landfill itself. The Town's guide lists local companies that collect bulky items, run roll-offs, haul residential trash and remove yard waste, and each one sets its own rates and its own list of accepted items.
Hazardous waste arrives in intact containers of five gallons or less
Weld County will not accept hazardous waste in a container larger than five gallons, every container has to be intact and not leaking, and nothing can arrive in a plastic bag, because staff have to be able to see each item rather than open it. A household is limited to 200 pounds per drop-off, per day of operation, per household, and larger amounts have to come back on another day.
Confirm the household hazardous waste days before loading a vehicle
The county's own page and the Town's 2024 guide describe the Greeley and Dacono household hazardous waste schedules differently, and both facilities close for major holidays, including the Saturday next to a holiday that falls on a Friday or Monday. Confirm the current day and hours with the county, and remember that business waste is taken by appointment only and is never accepted on a residential drop-off day.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
A household with a mattress, a couch, a table or a load of large items that would otherwise be charged by weight at the scale.
Cost & conditions
No charge. A limited number of vouchers are issued to Weld County residents for one free trip, valid from March 2, 2026 through October 31, 2026, covering one truckload level with the bed rails or one trailer load up to one ton.
Arrange it
Pick the voucher up at the Greeley household hazardous waste facility, the Dacono facility or the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment in Greeley, then take the load to the Front Range, North Weld or Buffalo Ridge landfill.
One load up to one ton, and any extra weight or volume is billed to the resident at the scale. The voucher expires on October 31, 2026 and the county issues a limited number of them.
A private hauler collects bulky items from the curb
A household that wants a couch, a mattress or a load of junk taken from the curb instead of driving it to the landfill.
Cost & conditions
Each hauler quotes its own bulky item, roll-off and subscription prices. The Town publishes the list of companies serving Firestone rather than setting their rates.
Arrange it
Contact a company from the Town's disposal guide and ask for a bulky item collection, a roll-off or a residential subscription.
There is no town rate and no town route to fall back on, and each hauler decides which items it will take, so confirm the item and the price before pickup day.
