The City of Golden offers free curbside appliance recycling to single family residences and townhomes, and appliances are expressly refused in the large item pickup because this separate program covers them. The accepted list is limited to full-size items, and the City names a washing machine, a fully drained water heater, a dryer, a full-size refrigerator, a freezer, a full-size stove or oven, and a dishwasher.

No charge. Free curbside appliance recycling for single family residences and townhomes inside the city limits. Appliances are excluded from the large item pickup program, and small items such as a microwave oven or a dorm refrigerator are not accepted.
When & how
A request received by 5 p.m. on Thursday is collected the following Tuesday, and a later request moves to the next week, with City staff calling to confirm the date. Drain the water heater completely before the pickup day.

The curbside appliance and mattress recycling program collects on Tuesday. A request received by 5 p.m. on Thursday is scheduled for the following Tuesday, a request that arrives after that Thursday moves to the next week, and City staff call back to confirm the date. Household hazardous waste goes to Rooney Road by appointment
The Rooney Road Recycling Center sits at 151 South Rooney Road in Golden and takes household hazardous waste from Jefferson County residents year round, including latex and oil based paint, cleaners and pesticides, motor oil and antifreeze, electronics and batteries. It is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment only, residential scheduling is online, and non-residential customers have to call the center. Colorado residents can also use the statewide Henderson drop-off sites, one with no appointment for household drop-off and one by appointment.
