A mattress is a paid bulky item on the town contract, and Eco-Cycle's hard-to-recycle centre in Boulder takes mattresses and box springs by the unit when they are dry and clean.
City cost & eligibility
$36.72 per mattress or box spring on a bulky item pickup. Residential accounts on the Town of Superior contract; the alternative at Eco-Cycle's Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials charges a facility fee plus an item fee per unit, so confirm that price separately if the drop-off route is used.

Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and free of bed bugs and mould before either route, because the hard-to-recycle centre states it cannot recycle bed products that are moldy or contain bed bugs. A box spring arriving in two or more pieces is charged as multiple units at the drop-off centre.
The town contract covers some neighbourhoods and not others
Superior's waste service runs under a Republic Services contract that started on March 31, 2025, with the cost based on the garbage cart size and three carts for garbage, recycling and compost. The town lists the neighbourhoods on that contract, and it states that garbage, recycling and opt-in compost for Rock Creek, Saddlebrooke and the Summit come from the Rock Creek Master Homeowners Association through its own Waste Connections contract until 2028, after which those areas join the town service. Service reminders are the same either way: garbage bagged, recycling and yard waste loose, carts at the curb by 7 a.m. on Mondays, three feet apart and eight feet from obstacles.
A bulky pickup is priced per item and some items are excluded
Bulky pickups on the town contract are paid rather than included, and the hauler publishes the prices per item for furniture, mattresses and non-refrigerant appliances. The same page lists electronics, batteries, tires, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners as not eligible for bulk pickup and sends them to Eco-Cycle's Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials in Boulder. Pickups are booked by phone or online, and the town asks residents to call ahead for large items.
Hazardous products go to the county and hard-to-recycle material to Eco-Cycle
Paint, motor oil, batteries, pesticides and acids never go in a cart. Boulder County's Hazardous Materials Management Facility at 1901 63rd Street in Boulder takes household hazardous waste from Superior residents free of charge with proof of residency, on Wednesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a 400 pound daily limit and a fee for visitors from outside the listed counties; Superior also holds its own periodic collection events. Everything the county facility and the carts will not take, including electronics, mattresses and refrigerant appliances, goes to Eco-Cycle's Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials at 6400 Arapahoe Road in Boulder, which charges a facility fee plus an item fee that varies by material.

Prices are per item on the hauler's Superior page: $26.22 for sofas, chairs and other furniture and $36.72 each for mattresses or box springs and for large appliances without refrigerant.
