Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are refused in a Click and Haul pile and at the recycling drop-offs, and they move instead through the city electronic recycling drop-off days, where a vehicle pays a fee per load of televisions or monitors.

City cost & eligibility
From $15 per vehicle for electronics up to one television or computer monitor at a city electronic recycling drop-off day, with a $25 fee for each vehicle carrying up to three televisions or monitors. Adams County residents, with registration opening six weeks before the event date. Data bearing equipment is handled for a high level of data destruction.
When & how
Register for the next electronic recycling drop-off day, such as the Saturday October 3 event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pedal Point, 3251 Lewiston St., Ste. 10 in Aurora, or the drop-off at the Infrastructure Maintenance Center, 12450 Washington St.
Get it ready
Keep televisions, monitors and computers out of the Click and Haul pile, out of the recycling bins and out of the trash. Do not bring anything with an exposed tube, mercury, freon or other chemicals, smoke or carbon monoxide detectors, thermostats, radioactive equipment, neon signs, alkaline batteries or light bulbs, because the events refuse them.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Know what the city drop-offs refuse

The recycling drop-off bins at the Municipal Service Center and the Infrastructure Maintenance Center take household recyclables only and refuse plastic bags, scrap metal, electronics, appliances, construction debris, textiles, yard waste and liquids. The Infrastructure Maintenance Center takes appliances, motor oil and antifreeze in sealed containers up to four gallons and organic material in three gallon compostable bags, and it refuses paint, televisions, furniture and general trash debris, and it serves Thornton residents only, never commercial or landscaping companies.

Register before the mattress and electronics events

The city mattress and electronic recycling drop-offs run by appointment, with registration opening six weeks before the event date, and the mattress event turns away anyone without an appointment because space is limited. Residents unload their own items, proof of residency is required, and a household may bring up to four mattress pieces. The landfill day on November 7 needs proof of Thornton residency and takes one vehicle load per household with pickup trucks, cars and small single-axle trailers only.

Household hazardous waste drop-off voucher

A Thornton household with paint, cleaners, chemicals or other household hazardous waste that cannot go in a cart or a Click and Haul pile.

Cost & conditions
The city provides a voucher worth the $30 Veolia facility fee only, and the resident agrees to pay the per pound fee on top, so the total depends on what is brought and is confirmed with Veolia when the appointment is made.
Arrange it
Email environmentalservices@ThorntonCO.gov with your name and address and the subject line VEOLIA VOUCHER REQUEST, then book an appointment with Veolia at its facility, 9131 E. 96th Ave. in Henderson, online or at 303-526-8155. One voucher is allowed per household per year, and the printed voucher must be handed to the attendant.

Appointments are available on Wednesdays and Saturdays only, the voucher covers the facility fee and not the per pound charge, and acceptable materials are set by Veolia.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-haul in Thornton means a city site or a city event rather than a public landfill. The Infrastructure Maintenance Center at 12450 Washington St. takes appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers and water heaters on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through the north gate at 126th Ave. and Ogden St., motor oil and antifreeze up to four gallons, and organic material in three gallon compostable bags, and it refuses paint, televisions, furniture and general trash debris. The recycling drop-off bins at the Municipal Service Center and at the Maintenance Center take household recyclables on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mattresses go to the free appointment based city drop-off or to Spring Back Colorado for a fee, electronics go to a priced city drop-off day, and household chemicals go to Veolia in Henderson with a city voucher worth the facility fee. On November 7 the gate fee is waived at the Republic Services Tower Landfill for one vehicle load per Thornton household. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Thornton.

How much does TV removal cost in Thornton?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Thornton?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do televisions and computers go in Thornton?

To a city electronic recycling drop-off day, which Adams County residents may use by appointment. A vehicle with electronics up to one television or computer monitor pays the lower fee, and a vehicle carrying up to three televisions or monitors pays the higher fee. The events refuse anything with an exposed tube, mercury, freon or other chemicals, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, thermostats, radioactivity, neon signs, alkaline batteries and light bulbs, and electronics never go in a Click and Haul pile or a recycling bin.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Thornton?

The City of Thornton runs the collection itself and bills it on the water bill, so questions go to Environmental Services at 720-977-6200 or environmentalservices@ThorntonCO.gov rather than to a private hauler. One black container is collected weekly with recycling every other week, extra containers cost more each month, and collection is delayed one day on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.Official guidance

Where do Thornton paint, chemicals and batteries go?

Paint, cleaning products and other household chemicals cannot go in a cart or in a Click and Haul pile, so they go to Veolia's hazardous waste facility at 9131 E. 96th Ave. in Henderson by appointment. Thornton residents can email environmentalservices@ThorntonCO.gov with the subject VEOLIA VOUCHER REQUEST to get one voucher per household per year worth the facility fee, while the per pound charge is paid at the facility. Motor oil and antifreeze up to four gallons in sealed containers can be left at the Infrastructure Maintenance Center, and household, lithium and specialty batteries go to Batteries Plus.Official guidance

What do I do with items too big for the black container?

Use Click and Haul, the city collection for large items. It costs a per collection price for six cubic yards, which the city describes as two normal pickup truck loads, with more than two full loads priced higher, billed on the next utility bill. Schedule it with Environmental Services at 720-977-6200 and put the load on the street by 7 a.m. on the collection day, no earlier than 24 hours before. Furniture, appliances, mattresses, hot water heaters, fence panels, branches, remodeling debris and evaporative coolers are eligible, and electronics, tires, concrete, hazardous material, dirt, sod and rocks are not.Official guidance
