Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronic waste is free at the Danbury drop-off center, and Connecticut law requires the city to provide that free collection point for televisions, computers, monitors and printers.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free at the Danbury drop-off center for permit holders. Batteries, ink cartridges, compact fluorescent and fluorescent bulbs and holiday string lights also go in the electronic waste container at no charge.
When & how
Take the devices to 307 White St. during opening hours and place them in the electronic waste container. No appointment is needed.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the regular recycling and trash because scavenging is prohibited at the site, and clear personal data before the device leaves the property. Incandescent bulbs do not belong in the e-waste container and go in the trash, and a lead acid car battery is refused at the center because Connecticut law requires returning it to a retailer.

The drop-off center needs a permit and takes cash only

Payment at the transfer station is by cash. The center opens Tuesday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday noon to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and commercial vehicles or vehicles with loose garbage cannot use it.

Drop off at the Mom & Pop center

A Danbury household with furniture, an appliance, a clean mattress, electronic waste, bagged trash, textiles, books, cardboard, glass or bundled brush.

Cost & conditions
The center prices almost everything by the item, the unit or the bag, and the page publishes the full schedule of charges, so confirm the current fee for the specific load when the permit is issued or when the load is weighed or counted at the gate. A permit is required and is free to residents with proof of residency, while a non-resident pays the published daily permit fee, and payment is by cash.
Arrange it
Get the permit at the site, load a passenger vehicle rather than a commercial one, and drive to 307 White St. during opening hours.

Bulky waste, construction and demolition material, asphalt, antifreeze, fuel, hazardous waste, motor oil, paints and stains, pesticides, propane tanks, tires, pharmaceuticals and most yard waste are refused, so each of those has to take its own route.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Danbury residents either subscribe to a private hauler or drive their own material to the Mom & Pop Drop Off and Recycling Center at 307 White St., which needs a permit, takes cash, and publishes a fee for almost everything it accepts. Clean, dry mattresses and all electronic waste are the free exceptions, and the electronic waste container also takes batteries, ink cartridges, fluorescent bulbs and holiday string lights. Furniture, appliances, bagged household trash, textiles, books, cardboard and glass are all accepted for a fee or free on their own terms. The streams the center refuses each have a named local route: bulky waste and construction and demolition material go to the Oak Ridge Transfer Station at (203) 743-0405, paint, fuel, antifreeze, pesticides and other hazardous products go to a regional household hazardous waste collection event, yard waste and clean brush go free to Ferris Mulch Products on Plumtrees Road, live Christmas trees are collected free at the curb after New Year, motor oil goes to a listed auto parts store or service station, tires go back to a retailer or to a named tire shop, propane tanks go to Leahy's on White Street, and medicines go to the Danbury Police Station. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Danbury.

How much does TV removal cost in Danbury?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Danbury?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Is electronics recycling free in Danbury?

Yes. Electronic waste is accepted free in the container at the Danbury drop-off center for permit holders, and Connecticut's electronics recycling law requires each municipality to provide residents with a free, convenient and accessible collection point for televisions, computers, monitors and printers.Official guidance

What else goes in the electronics container?

Batteries, both single use and rechargeable, ink cartridges, compact fluorescent and fluorescent bulbs, and holiday string lights all go in the electronic waste container at no charge. Silver oxide watch batteries are the exception and go to a household hazardous waste event, while incandescent bulbs go in the regular trash.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Danbury?

A private hauler the resident chooses, because curbside collection in the region is a private subscription service. The Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority is the City's solid waste and recycling authority and publishes a chart of registered haulers permitted to collect in each municipality. Trash goes first to a regional transfer station, one of which is in Danbury, and is then shipped to the Wheelabrator waste-to-energy plant in Bridgeport.Official guidance

Can I bring bagged trash to the drop-off center?

Yes, with a permit and cash. Household trash is charged by the bag, and the published rates step up with the bag size, from a thirteen gallon bag to a fifty gallon or larger bag. Commercial vehicles and vehicles carrying loose garbage cannot use the center, so the trash has to arrive bagged in a passenger vehicle.Official guidance

Can textiles and books be recycled instead of thrown out?

Yes, both are free at the drop-off center. Textiles go in a collection container that takes clothing, footwear, accessories and linens, which may be ripped or stained as long as they are dry and bagged. Books are free to recycle but the pages have to be ripped out of both paperbacks and hardcovers, with the binding going in the trash, and a dirty, mouldy or wet book cannot be recycled or donated.Official guidance

What happens at a household hazardous waste event?

Residents stay in their vehicle the whole time, place only the material to be removed at the back of the vehicle, and have a driver's license ready as proof of residency while workers take the contents out. Waits run from five to thirty minutes, the event runs rain or shine, the authority may inspect a vehicle with an excessive amount of material, and large quantities are subject to a fee. Medicines cannot be brought to these events.Official guidance
