A mattress is accepted at the transfer station with one published condition: it must be dry. The city lists mattresses with the oversized items that are never collected curbside, so the route is River Road with a dump ticket.
The handoff matters
The transfer station at 866 River Road asks for proof of residency, which can be a valid Connecticut driver's licence, a current Shelton tax bill with a matching photo ID or a current utility bill with a matching photo ID. No waste generated outside Shelton is accepted, every vehicle is unloaded by hand, and scavenging is not allowed. The dump ticket is bought in advance at the Shelton Public Works and Highway Department, 41 Myrtle Street, open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and it is paid for by cash or check, with the price set by the vehicle and the size of the load.

Asphalt roofing material is not accepted, and hazardous waste items are saved for the collection day.

Trash has to be in plastic bags and no plastic bags may go in the recycling cart, and an overloaded cart may not be collected at all. Paint, solvents, gasoline, soil, acids, oil, hot ashes, medical waste, exposed needles, sand and rocks are barred from the carts, with one exception the city prints: latex paint is non hazardous and may go in the trash cart once it is completely dried. Before you book
Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Shelton.
The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.
Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.
The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.
Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.
You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.
