Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulky waste is household material too large for the trash cart with the lid closed. A residence may set out up to two cubic yards a week, and volume past that is charged rather than refused.
City cost & eligibility
From $10 per cubic yard of bulky waste beyond the two cubic yard weekly allowance, billed on the utility account. City of Fort Pierce residential customers. The first two cubic yards each week carry no separate charge, and any volume above it is billed and collected by Fort Pierce Utilities Authority.
When & how
Weekly on the neighbourhood collection day from the city service map, with the pile at the curb before the crew arrives.
Get it ready
Stack the pile neatly and keep it within the weekly allowance, because a nonconforming pile is subject to a fee. Leave eighteen feet of clearance for the truck, so nothing goes under low trees or wires. Put glass, mirrors and glass tabletops in a rigid container, roll and tie rugs and carpet, remove the doors from any appliance before it goes out, and keep hazardous material out of the pile, since crews will not move it to reach acceptable items. The city's unacceptable list also keeps contractor generated material, construction, remodeling and demolition debris including concrete, brick, tile, rock, dirt, sand and soil, automobile bodies and parts with their engines, transmissions and batteries, and horticultural material from commercial lawn and yard services out of the pile. Construction, remodeling and demolition debris is refused by name, including concrete, brick, tile, rock, dirt, sand and soil; automobile bodies and parts, engines, transmissions and batteries are refused; and horticultural material from a commercial lawn or yard service is refused.
Discarded furniture is named in the city's own bulky waste examples, so a couch or table goes out with the weekly bulky pile inside the two cubic yard allowance.
City cost & eligibility
From $10 per cubic yard of bulky waste beyond the two cubic yard weekly allowance, billed on the utility account. City of Fort Pierce residential customers, with the first two cubic yards each week carrying no separate charge.
When & how
Weekly on the neighbourhood collection day, with the pile out for the crew.
Get it ready
Keep the piece in the bulky pile rather than in or beside the cart, because the trash cart lid has to close and extra material on the ground is held for the bulky day. Leave the pile where the truck has eighteen feet of clearance, and remove the doors from any appliance in the same pile.
Mattresses are named in the city's bulky waste examples, so a mattress or box spring goes out with the weekly bulky pile rather than needing a special pickup.
City cost & eligibility
From $10 per cubic yard of bulky waste beyond the two cubic yard weekly allowance, billed on the utility account. City of Fort Pierce residential customers, with the two cubic yard weekly allowance included before the volume charge applies.
When & how
Weekly on the neighbourhood collection day from the service map.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and inside until the collection day, stack it neatly in the bulky pile, and leave the pile clear of low branches and wires. A mattress still in good condition is worth offering for reuse before it is treated as waste, because the city route sends it to disposal.
Household appliances are named in the bulky waste examples, and the county takes white goods as a separate load for a small per load charge.
City cost & eligibility
The city includes appliances in the bulky allowance with no separate charge published, while the county charges a flat rate per load for scrap metal and white goods, so confirm which route to use with the city division on 772-467-3794 or the county on 772-462-1768.
When & how
Weekly with the bulky pile on the neighbourhood collection day, or a self haul trip to the county facility during its open hours.
Get it ready
Remove the doors from a refrigerator, washer, dryer or stove before it goes out, which the city requires for every appliance. Keep the unit out of the trash cart and separate enough from the rest of the pile that the crew can see what it is.
Construction, remodeling and demolition debris is refused by the city by name, and it is also on the yard waste refusal list. The county facility takes it at a published per ton rate.
City cost & eligibility
From $10 for the minimum charge for a construction and demolition load, with heavier loads prorated at the county rate per ton. Charged at the St. Lucie County scale, with no city collection route available for this material.
When & how
Take the load to 6120 Glades Cut-Off Road in Fort Pierce, open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the hand unloader on the scale before the cut off time.
Get it ready
Keep the load to construction and demolition material and separate clean wood if the load includes it, because clean wood is priced at a lower county rate. Keep contractor generated material with the contractor, because the city refuses it and will not haul away what a contractor produced.
Only city issued carts are serviced, the lid has to close, and anything left on the ground waits for the bulky day instead of being collected with the cart.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the residential solid waste service billed on the city utility account, with no separate charge published for cart collection.
When & how
Carts go out the night before or by 7 a.m. on the service day from the city service map.
Get it ready
Keep the cart at least five feet from every other object, including other carts, bulk items, mailboxes, trees, poles and cars, and within two feet of the curb. Set the lid arrows toward the street and the handle toward the house, close the lid, bag small debris so it does not scatter, and never stack anything on top. Extra bags left on the ground are not collected on the regular run, so hold them for the bulky collection day.
Automated collection needs room. Put the cart out the night before or by 7 a.m., keep it at least five feet from other carts, bulk items, mailboxes, trees, poles and cars, and place it within two feet of the curb with the lid arrows toward the street and the handle toward the house. Bag small debris, close the lid and leave nothing on top.
Two cubic yards of bulk, stacked and clear of wires
A residence may set out two cubic yards of bulky waste a week, stacked neatly at the curb, with the extra volume billed by the cubic yard rather than refused. Trucks need eighteen feet of clearance, so keep the pile out from under low trees and wires. Remove the doors from any appliance, roll and tie carpet and rugs, and put glass and mirrors in a rigid container.
The St. Lucie County facility on Glades Cut-Off Road prices each stream at the scale, so separate construction and demolition material, clean wood, yard waste, tires and scrap metal before the trip. Hand unloaders have to be on the scale by 4:15 p.m. on a weekday and by 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, payment is cash or major credit card, and a vehicle or trailer weight is charged as well.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?+

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+

Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
