Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Gainesville collects garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk items at the curb every week for homes in the city program, and the bulk list is generous: furniture, mattresses, box springs and bed frames, treadmills, bicycles, grills with the tank removed, patio furniture, disassembled trampolines and swing sets, large kid items, garden tools, and interior do it yourself remodeling debris such as toilets, sinks, cabinets, carpet and glass tabletops within two cubic yards a week. Appliances and large electronics are different: both are collected by appointment on the regular garbage day at no additional cost, the appliance request is due by noon the day before, the electronics request by 10 a.m. the day before with a ten item limit, and small devices such as phones and keyboards have to be carried to a county drop off center instead. Paint, chemicals, batteries, motor oil and small electronics go free to the Alachua County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center at 5125 NE 63rd Ave., open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tires and heavy scrap go to the county's Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station at 5115 NE 63rd Ave., open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., where tires are charged at published tonnage and per tire rates, a Freon containing appliance is 25.00 each, and construction and demolition debris is no longer accepted at all. County household hazardous waste and electronics drop off

Alachua County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center

5125 NE 63rd Ave., Gainesville, FL 32609

Household hazardous waste and electronics from residents, and the city notes that drop off is free for Gainesville and Alachua County residents and that the five rural collection centers also take electronics, while neighbouring county residents use Toxic Round-Up events.

Only very small quantity generator businesses pay for disposal, and those businesses have to comply with county code, the Florida Administrative Code and the federal hazardous waste rules. The city reminds residents never to put hazardous waste in the trash, out at the curb or down a drain or storm sewer, and that landfilling motor oil, car batteries, nickel cadmium batteries, fluorescent bulbs, mercury, medical waste, liquid waste, tires, white goods and yard waste is banned in Florida.

Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The county can be reached at 352-334-0440.

No charge. Only very small quantity generator businesses pay a fee, so a household using the center is not charged under the published rules, and the county also lets Alachua County residents use the five rural collection centers.
