Osceola County takes electronics free from Osceola households at the Bass Road Disposal Facility or the St. Cloud Transfer Station, and Polk County takes household chemical and electronic waste at no additional fee from Polk residents at the facility on Environmental Loop in Winter Haven, where businesses, nonprofits and other entities are not eligible.
When & how
Drop off during site hours. Osceola County's Bass Road facility opens Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the last chemical load at 2:45 p.m. and is closed weekends, and the St. Cloud Transfer Station opens Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Polk County's household hazardous waste facility opens Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the garbage and the recycling cart in both counties, and treat batteries separately because the two counties give the same warning about lithium batteries. Osceola County asks for lithium ion batteries to be kept out of waste and recycling carts and for the terminals to be taped, and Polk County states that ordinary alkaline batteries are safe in the garbage while rechargeable batteries have to be recycled.
Construction material, tires, car and boat parts, engines, propane cylinders, asbestos, explosives, biomedical waste and sharps stay out of the carts in both counties, and so does household hazardous waste such as lead acid batteries, used oil and oil filters. Paint, chemicals and electronic waste go free to the county household hazardous waste site, which for Osceola County is the Bass Road facility in Kissimmee and for Polk County is the facility on Environmental Loop in Winter Haven.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Household chemicals including antifreeze, solvents, car batteries, waste oil and filters, brake and transmission fluid, small quantities of used gasoline, paints, thinners and wood preservatives, cooking oil, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, unknown chemicals, pesticides, cleaning products, muriatic acid and pool chemicals, along with electronics such as computers, monitors, televisions, cell phones and detectors, and single use, button cell, rechargeable, alkaline and lead acid batteries.
Osceola County residential households only, with business and commercial waste refused and 55 gallon drums not accepted. Materials go in containers of five gallons or smaller, never mixed, in the original labelled container where possible, with leaking containers packed into a larger container with absorbent material and the load carried in the trunk away from passengers. The last household chemical load is accepted at 2:45 p.m.
Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday.
No charge. Osceola County residential households, free for household chemicals, electronics and the accepted batteries, with the same site open to St. Cloud residents together with the transfer station on Peghorn Way.

Non commercial Polk County residents only. Businesses, nonprofits and other entities are not eligible, and federal law requires them to arrange their own hazardous waste disposal. Motor oil is banned from landfill disposal, paint is limited to 20 gallons a year, and latex paint may instead be dried out with sand, cat litter or sawdust and placed in the household garbage with the lid off.

If a device cannot be erased or contains sensitive business information, arrange suitable data handling before giving it away. In Polk County a homeowner leases a second garbage cart for a published one time fee, with a convenience fee added for an online payment, and a damaged or missing cart is replaced free of charge though the cart does not transfer if the home is sold.
