A mattress is not named on the city's free special pickup list, which names furniture, carpet and appliances, so it has to be confirmed. Depending on the answer it either rides the three cubic yard furniture allowance or is collected as material outside the list at the per cubic yard rate.
City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no mattress entry. Confirm with the Sanitation Department at 727-893-7398 whether a mattress counts within the three cubic yard furniture allowance or is charged as material outside the free list at 25 dollars and 65 cents per cubic yard, and ask for the estimate before the pickup.
When & how
Call 727-893-7398 or submit the SeeClickFix request, confirm the classification and any fee, then set the mattress out where the address normally places its trash.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress out of the alley or curb before the pickup is arranged, keep it dry, and do not take it to a brush site, because those sites take yard waste, metals, appliances and cement roofing tiles rather than bedding.
A special pickup is arranged, not automatic. Submit the request in SeeClickFix and include a photo of the items to help expedite it, or call the Sanitation Department at 727-893-7398. Free items are scheduled by the department, anything outside the free list gets an estimate, and the resident confirms the fee before the pickup. Items go where the address normally sets out its trash: in the alley for an alley collection address, or on the curb for a curbside address. Regular trash and yard waste belong in the designated container rather than loose on the curb or in the alley.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Free for city sanitation customers within the published list and its maximums, with material outside the list charged 25 dollars and 65 cents per cubic yard after an estimate. The free allowance groups furniture, carpet and appliances at up to three cubic yards.

Submit the request in SeeClickFix with a photo, or call 727-893-7398, confirm whether the items are free or need an estimate, and place them where the address normally sets out its trash.
Item maximums apply: five car batteries, five car tires, two doors, two empty 20 pound propane tanks, three cubic yards of furniture, carpet and appliances, two kitchen cabinets and two windows. Anything beyond those limits is charged by the cubic yard, and nothing may sit loose in the alley or on the curb before the pickup is arranged.
